Neither one contains a bunch of dead ducks, so you are off base here. Do you remember the picture that an old poster took (Don Aye?) that had all the pintails nailed to the barn. He breasted out his birds and saved them up and made a market hunter pic. As I remember it it was cool, but that may be the patina of time at work on my minds eye.

As for the herons, I like the barn pic, but the heron in the second looks better (I know, I'm an asshole).

Honestly, the first one is a better barn picture. The heron is too small in it to be as interesting to me. The second one is a more interesting heron photo to me. I'd see how it looks cropped above the metal roof. The bottom on that one just draws my eye a little more then the bird, and small streak of poop on the beam it is standing on.

gettin really agressive ont the crop with this one and its starting to get "soft"...which given the quality of light and the "mood" really isn't a bad thing....

I like the first picture. The old barn has a lot of character but that's the biggest damn pigeon I've ever seen! Nice photoshop work getting that to look like a Heron.

Who the heck are you? THE Steve Sutton I know doesn't talk about "lighting" and "mood" - especially during duck season. You have to be an imposter and I bet you even type with your pinky finger raised over the key board. Of all things to have to see this time of year....................................

Oh, I like the barn picture the best.
 
Well I like that last one but all of them are very nice, they each show something different.
First one is sort of lonely looking, in a good way. Second one is bolder to me. This third one makes it look like the heron is king looking out from his throne. One last artsy thing, I love that red color. As a couple painters I like would say "that color is delicious".
