Those of you who carve Black Cork...

Hey Rich,

Yes, most of the colors and the base coat are from the set I won from Keith! Still can't believe the generosity that he and others have shown me along the way of my carving career! Have you been carving at all?

Zach

Didn't mean to hijack the thread... And yes I have been carving some at school, I only got to start on a head last week and I have been working on it for probably 2-3 hours total and I am almost done with it. The bill area is giving me trouble, but otherwise I am having a great time with it...

I found a ball point pen in a block of black cork. I like the way BSC floats better than Tan or wood. My first attempt at carving was with BSC and I used a fordom tool. two seconds and I was ready to quit and never carve again. I will never touch a power tool to black cork again....cept the bandsaw. A Stanley sureform will take cork off almost too fast. Sutton told me to soak the BSC in gym floor sealer using a 5 gallon bucket...hold under till the bubbles stop. These have been beaten up badly for about 8-9 years and no problemos. If you really want them to last, seal this was and paint with FME from Lock Stock and Barrel.

how does gym floor sealer differ from spar?

Chuck

Sorry, maybe I wasn't speciffic enough in how I asked. I realize they aren't the same, but aren't they closely related (Oil based urethane, elastic, etc). So how is gym floor sealer better in this case?

Chuck

It is more elastic so it shrinks and swells with the gym floor. It is also, as it has to be...tougher than hell.
