Thought about buying a Jeep Cj?

I have been driving a 77 CJ5 258 I-6 for the last 10 years, it was my daily driver for about 4 years. I bought a 97 cherokee new and would still be driving it today if a young lady had not attempted to end my life by pulling out in front of me about 2 years ago. I replaced that wrecked vehicle with an 88 Grand Wagoneer. The 258 is a decent engine when combined with a manual transmission, but I wouldn't want to tow anything behind it. The Gwag, on the other hand, would pull your house off the slab. PM me if you have any questions I can answer. Alex

Is safety (rollover) a concern. I've been thinking about getting an old beater cJ for my son when he turns 16, but several people have mentioned that's not a good idea due to them rolling over. Any suggestions?

I have heard that the cj5s are the ones that rollover the easiest, the cj7s are more stable, this is what I was told by previous jeep owners, hope this helps Brian

The CJ line went to Wide Trac axles in 82-86. This widened the stance by 4" Go for an 82 or later for enhanced stability.
Any high proflie vehicle will be inherently unstable when driven in a manner unsafe for it's design.

Will it corner like a car? Nope! But they don't roll just driving around town either.

The first vehical I owned at age 18 was a 1947 CJ2A , next 1953 CJ3B , next my first ordered new Jeep 1973 CJ5C6 with 304 V8 T90 3 speed , 1966CJ5 V6 3 speed to restore and sell. I loved them all. Then I had kids. Good luck. Tom.
