Thoughts on new motor brand

The good news from reading the reply's, is that many different manufactures make reliable outboard motors . . .

It may be more relevant to ask which motors to avoid!

I have a 3 cyl Yamaha since '99. Great motor. My mechanic told me never to sell it unless it was to him LOL!

The new Suzy's are nice motors and wieght is coming down. So either way i think you will be fine.

How much does the motor weigh? Can you easily raise it manually?
If you can easily raise & lower the motor manually, then I would not add power T/T.
Less to go wrong at zero-dark-thirty.

there heavy and long so you really have to lean back to trim it.

i used to flip the switch to "shallow water drive" and put it in reverse then lift with the left hand and give it some gas with the right hand. made life much easier but i wasn't in normal duck hunting conditions i was in open water

if i bought a new motor (either 4stroke or smart 2 stroke) larger than 15 i would definitely get power everything.

also spend the extra and get the 30 or find a tech who will bump it up for you for some cash. its the same block so you don't gain any weight.

i agree with Carl. KISS is the moto for anything duck hunting related. its why i use a pump and old 2 strokes.

same as 30 with trim and tilt 187 Ibs. a little less without i don 't think it's worth the work, but I'm lazy. Wesley is still young so his choice

I am in the 30hp ETec crowd. I have the same engine as Shawn on the same boat. I love the combo together. The engine has been great. Knowing someone else with the same exact engine and hull combination has allowed us to compare notes, buy a couple of different props and not have to spend as much to do so. The engine has been awesome this spring, summer and now hunting season.

I got the power tilt and trim. Didn't think it mattered, because "I am still am still relatively young and can handle it." Man, does that power tilt and trim make it nice to run the boat in the marsh. Small corrections to trim attitude or running at low idle speed in shallow water with the push of a button conveniently located on the end of the throttle control. REALLY, nice.

Wes, give me a shout. We can get you and dad out for a test ride.
