Time for a break!

I've been slaving in the garage this week trying to get some decoys done before bird season starts. Here's what I've got so far...

A funky little buffy.

OS with a fixed tail.

OS with a removeable tail. I used a brass insert to make it stronger and thinner.

I made 6 round bottom BBills like this one.

I in-letted lead into the bellies.

I covered two geese that were hanging around here all winter. I don't know when I might paint them, but at least they are canvas'd. Maybe they'll become snow geese when I paint the swans I've got to do.

I thought about this neck joint all winter and it turned out pretty good I'd say.

I know traditionally the flaps were sewn, but I hate sewing. I like air nailers though.

I might sell one of the geese unpainted as a project for someone if anyone is interested. My finished ones are $275, but I'd sell a blank one for $200.

It always feels good to get stuff done, and these have been at various stages of started all winter. Its nice to be back on my feet and making dust a bit!

Good weekend to all.

Mike

Mike,

Great looking birds! I really like the wood grain that's showing in the dekes. It's far more beautiful than the tan cork that I've been using. Please post some painted pics when you get them done and thanks for the inspiration.

Nice job on all the decoys! I do like that neck joint/head position. I was trying some forward heads, and they aren't bad, but just aren't great with a level neck mount. I have been stapling all the seams that land on wood, sewing the pleats in the leg area. Sewing isn't so bad if you bring it in the house and work from a mice comfy chair. I have got 9 almost ready for paint, just need canvas and wires on 2...oh yeah, I need heads for anout 5 of them too. I should have 12 to hunt over this fall.

Take care, and keep the pictures coming.

Chuck

Mike I've seen you carve decoys and in you case "slaving" is not even close to describing what you do. I slave to carve a decoy,,,,,,, you don't even break a sweat carving a complete decoy while I work on maybe one side of a head.

Slaving,,,,,,,,,,,, ya right, you'll get no sympathy from me.

Nice decoys BTW.

What are you talking about Dave?! How do you think I broke my back in the first place?: )

Chuck - you gotta slow down! There's going to be a canvas shortage.

Hopefully I get them painted in the next couple of weeks and I'll show them again.
