To remove the front deck, or not?

Considering getting rid of the front "bench" and deck of my big boat to make more floor space for decoys and someone to sit... here are few pics. I would leave about 8" on each side of the existing bench and box them in to maintain the cross-support that provides to the front of the hull. I'd then make the floor go just about up to the very bow of the boat, making a small storage compartment (that used to be there anyway) for the anchor and odds and ends.
pic from when I converted it to a tiller that shows part of the front deck.

some older pics I fond on photobucket that show the front deck to some degree

I would be losing some enclosed storage from the bench, but most of that could be relocated to a milk crate under my tiller seat, and the stuff I store under the large deck hatch (life jackets) need to be worn anyway and they always get wet under there from rain etc anyhow. I just find myself wanting a bigger floor but I'm not entirely sure either way. It's no work at all to just leave it the way it currently sits, but where's the fun in that?

Leave the seat, deep six the front deck.

I like 'em deep and open. The extra room not only affords more storage, but also helps keep things out of sight when underway, and lowers the center of gravity.

We all know, there's never enough room in a duck boat.

But then again, that's just my opinion.

interesting opinion, i will think about it for a few days here. I have the front half taken apart already, this seems like a good option. agreed, more decoy storage up front and not in the way of my field of vision would sure be nice.

Man that front deck would be great for shooting under power.

Brilliant!!!!!

I once watched a father and sun sharing a hunting moment together. The son was in the bow deck of the boat gunning sea ducks as the father drove the boat under power. The boy was too small to work the action on the pump gun, so the father had to work the action for him after each shot and get him ready for the next shot and motor him to the birds. What a dad! A lazier dad would buy his kid an auto, so he would only have to reload every 4 or 5 shots. :).

[font=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]I'm on board with this also.

As far as the boat goes, looking at your pictures I would think your idea's would make you a better layout than you have now. On the other hand, I have absolutely no knowledge of building anything, especially a boat.

I hate to break it to you Tod - but I have shattered the dream of shooting off the deck with a forward mounted gun with a drum magazine by cutting the whole deck out. :(

Greg,
Thanks man - I have already started the project in another thread, and I already like the feel of the more open layout. However, being lazy, I have made a lot of work for myself in trying to fit a floor properly into the geometric nightmare that is the front of the boat.
