Todd Mustang Float Coat

Hello Todd,
You have made a good case for the Mustang coat. I am considering the Mustang Catalyst Bomber Jacket due to the hood and always hunting with waders on.
I would like to know about the coats warmth and if you dress in layers along with it say at
1) 50 degrees
2) 30 degrees
3) 10 degrees.
4) Is the coat truly waterproof or is it water repellent

Thank You,
John

That isn’t the jacket I have, so I can’t say anything about it. I’ve never seen someone wearing one either that I know of. The most common is the bomber classic on the water. The classic used to have a hood available, I think. The linked one looks sporty, so I don’t know how it will hold up, people wear the classic like a carhart in winter and they seem to hold up given how grungy they get. Mine has held up for sure.

The classic is comfortable in 30 to 50 with just a light to mid under layer. I’ve worn mine to zero with layers under, zero is cold for anything, but I’ve worn it on plenty in cold. I’m happy with it as anything as an outer, say vs a Columbia 4 in 1 for warmth. Mine was 100 percent waterproof and shed water well when new. It does not shed water now, since it is old and I don’t know if it is waterproof. I wear a slicker over it when rainy or windy to keep it dry and keep the salt off (gets crusty).

I read on the catalyst and it is a breathable fabric, that is different than the classic. I only wear non breathable otters for duck hunting anymore. The classic is something like urethane backed nylon, which is waterproof, but I doubt the seams are taped.

Todd,
I appreciate the information I will be at the Atlantic City boat show the end of the month
and am hoping to see a vendor with a selection of Mustang gear which will help with my decision.
John
