Tohickon Glass Eyes

Tod,
The eyes that I bought where called Tohikon, they came from a Taxidermy Supplier who even lists them in their product line up as Tohikon. However, I can't believe that they are the real deal (thus the warning to be careful who you buy from). The ones I bought from the Co. direct where great.

I actually had a discussion with my neighbor, who is a professional Taxidermist, he says their is some skuttlbutt that this very large Taxidermy supply place is looking to buy up the Tohikon Co. and that they are big enough to play some of those crappy mess with a product name and quality games. The bad part is that the consumer pays the price in quality, and the parent company pays the price in reputation.

I would put it akin to the old Outlaw Decoy practice of market domination. All in all I still consider myself lucky to live in a place where I can drive 20 minutes and buy really good eyes first hand, most guys aren't.

In my dealings with Tohickon Glass Eyes I've never been treated with anything bit excellent customer service and the products I've purchased have always been exactly as they have been described by the manufacturer. And I've bought many thousands of dollars of eyes from them over the years.

Brian don't you think it's just a little bit unethical to slam a company's product then admit in the next sentence that you didn't actually purchase them from that company so you're not actually sure that you had that company's product, start a rumor that you "heard" that they are going to be taken over by some mystery Taxidermy Supply company and then pitch your buddy's products in the same post?

Where's your proof of all of this?

Mr. Lawrence,

Did you read the post? It's not a slam, it's a cautionary tale? The Mystery Supplier is Mackenzie (sp) I ordered through them. When the description says Tohikon, what is a guy supposed to think? If you read farther you could see that the next sentence states that I don't believe that Tohikon was properly represented and that the eyes that I did get from them where great (still trying to see the slam)? I would hope Tohikon goes after them, but that takes tons of cash and time.

pitching a buddies stuff? I don't think Willy needs a pitch man, ever spent anytime around the guy? Unethical, rumor? Just didn't see it through your eyes I guess, thought of it more along the line of talking and sharing.

Brian,

I read it over at least six times to be sure what I was reading. It's nothing but rumor mongering, and you did make a pitch.

Talking person to person is one thing writing it on the internet where someone cannot read voice inflections and facial expressions is another.

I've got nothing for or against Willy, in fact I have spent many dollars with him also, but in all reality he's just a retailer, he even states so on his bio for this web page. And by definition retailers buy and resell at a markup, that's how they stay in business.

Reading your post a seventh time reads no different.

Once again I ask you, where's your proof?

Mr. Lawrence,

The proof comes from the Mackenzie web site. Number and style descriptions are a Tohikon rip off. Flier that I ordered from in 2008 said Tohikon.
As to the full burden of proof, sorry but I have no better than my word, my apologies that it bares no weight.

Mr. Lawrence, I've been on this site for a very long time, almost from the beginning, and I've been called a lot of things (mostly knucklehead) but rumor monger, and unethical are new ones. This has always been a great place, were eveyrbody can offer up and share just about anything (real names keeps it that way IMO).

As to Willy, my apologies to him, I didn't mean to have him drug through the mud with me by mentioning his name. Many folks around here already Know he is a retailer, but most of us just prefer think of him as a friend instead.

Stevie, Eric, sorry guys I had no intention of being unethical.

In closing Mr. Lawrence, I agree 100 percent that the net makes interpretation difficult. Might I suggest that you and I find a way to meet if you are in Ohio and we can discuss things face to face so that my facial expressions and voice inflections are not misconstrued.

Okay Brian,

I guess that you have misunderstood where I'm questioning your post. I'm not questioning that you bought a bad product from Mackenzie that was sold to you as something else.

But when you wrote that your neighboor the taxidermist told you scuttlebutt that he heard and then you decided to write it here, that is spreading an unsubstantiable rumor. Those were your words. And even the title that you added to your original post---You used the word Beware. That in itself cast a negative pall to your post. And by the way rumor mongering means to spread just that ---rumors.

And like you said you decided to add a third party to an unsubstantiated rumor.

As for how long you've "been here" that's irrelevant to any discussion.

If your last statement is some type of threat, I sure hope not, and once again without actually seeing your face that it's hard to tell. It could have been written in humor, and that's the way I chose to view it at this point. So if you want to meet next month, and you'd like to talk about decoys or hunting or dogs or even baseball, sure I'd love that. But if you want to continue how you started with this I'm not interested.

Same rhetoric, different locale!
Brian, I agree---if you buy from the source, there are no problems.
Nuff said, bud--See you in a couple of weeks. Been busy in shop, listening to Adrianna of "Naxos and making shavings--more on that in a few.. Hey, you wanna grind with us on friday-saturday for a while? I willl pass on the secret stool sample via the e mail!
Dobry dzenya, pan!

and clearly the only points being agreed upon is that you disagree with one another.....and that the "real" Tohickon eyes are good eyes.....

And now the appearance of a third party whose intent is to compare to another site.....

Time to move on cause at this point its just repeating the same thing over and over.....

Brian I saw nothing that indicated that you were trying to "start" something so no issues there.....

Lets kick some dirt in on top of this dead horse and move forward...

Thanks,

Steve
