Heading to Mayo
Journal entry by Barb Ness — 3 hours ago
Good Morning, Tom and Deb are headed to Mayo today (Wed., Sept. 13th) to begin his Stem Cell Transplant procedures. They are staying at the Gift of Life House - Room #56, 705 2nd Street SW, Rochester, MN 55902. Mail can be sent directly to them at this address. Cards and letters from friends and family will be a great resource of strength and encouragement for both of them.
They will have their cell phones; but also have a direct line into their room at 507-535-1007.
Thank you for keeping them in your prayers. God is good, and will hold them tight during this six week process.

Thanks Pete for posting that info.

Tom, good luck with the stem cell procedures. The boys and I are still sending good juju.

Thinking of you today Tom. As mentioned, call me for anything. I'll get down to Rochester soon. Maybe we can organize a DBHF get together at your temporary place. Wonder how that would go over.

Depends on how many guns and dead ducks we showed up with. [shocked] bonus points for a wet dog or two.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, prayers, vibes and juju. Off to my first appointment now. Shiny side up. Wet dogs welcome.

Well all the good juju really worked!!!!! I had my first and last stem cell collection today. Needed 6,000,000 got 6,080,000. Don't ask me who counts them but it is for sure that am one lucky guy, they told us to count on 3 to 5 days of collection. Next step will be to get a port put in for the chemo and transplant. Not sure what that does for the overall timetable but the whitetail may have to worry a bit this Nov. (dreamer). There is quite a bit of road left to travel and there will be bumps, mud and rocks. Again thanks for all the support from all of you.

Tom that sounds great. Keep that positive attitude. I hope you can get out after those deer in November.

Tim

God bless, Tom!

Drop some ODHA wisdom on them!

Things like, when you see a tire tracks from a wheel chair you can say, "see that track, that's where my tail has been dragging.. "

Great news Tom. If ducks and deer are passed on this year, let's shoot for ice fishing. I've got the gear, you just need to bring yourself.

Mark

Tom,

When they put the port in, they generally put it on the right side. It's right under the skin so no way you want to shoot with it on your right. (Assuming you're right handed.) When I asked they started to tell me that it never interferes with your activities, until I told them I was a shooter and hunter and no way it would feel good there. Then doc./installer's story changed and she admitted that the only complaint she'd ever had was from a shooter.

Best of luck!
Scott

I hadn't thought about that one, oh well. Maye I'll have to jump out of a tree with a knife. Obviously I'm feeling pretty spunky this morning.

Tom,

Was I too late on my left side recommendation? Over on the left it didn't bother me at all, including when I shoot 3.5" out of the SBE. Now cold was a different story. I'm not sure what poison your going to get but I was warned that I would be very cold sensitive and they were right. Still got out, even ice fishing, good gear and even better friends made it possible - (Thanks Wendell & Dave M.!!!)

Scott, Not too late on your advice. Port may go in Fri or even Sat. Way ahead of the curve so now I have a couple days of cooling my heels to catch up with my original schedule. My port should be in and out in a few weeks or even days so should not bother by first weekend in Nov. I have had a few surprises so far so I won't get too far down the calendar. I will keep it in mind though to tell the doc about recoil. One of my regular trap shooting friends had jaw cancer a few years back and the first question for her doc was when can I shoot and she had to get a second doc in for an opinion that she liked.

Scott,

I am quite sure neither left or right side, will significantly improve Tom's shooting, but I'm sure he thanks you for your concern. [angelic]

Dave, Say what you want we may need to put that talk to rest one of these days.[;)]. Just learned we chat with the docs on Fri., port in Mon., chemo Tues., Wed. AND then transplant Fri. Moving right along.
Pete, What was that I don't forget??
Thanks again to all for stomping on me when I probably need it.
