Trailer pricing?

I am in the market for an enclosed trailer. I've been researching my options and getting prices from various dealers. I can not understand how there can be such a huge difference in price from dealer to dealer on the same exact trailer.

Dealer "A" quotes a price of 4600 dollars.

Dealer "B" quotes a price of 5600 dollars.

Both places do not stock this trailer and will need to call the factory and place an order. One thousand dollars difference on a 4600-5600 dollar purchase??? Especially when all the dealer is doing is placing a phone call???

I understand overhead costs may vary, but these dealers are both located in similar sized small towns. These dealers are only 80 miles apart.

It's no small wonder why a guy feels like he is being taken advantage of a good share of the time.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

Same brand, same weight, same tires??? That's why we shop around for prices. Bought a GMC p/u for $1,600 less with more stuff by going out of town. Local sales guy said I should have checked back for maybe a better price???

As I said "exact" same trailer.
I'll that $1,600 diff was on a much larger total purchase price than the trailer prices I was quoted.

Its all markup, trying to make a $ or $$.
The more expensive shop is hoping you won't call around or has on idea who his competition is. Get a written quote from the cheaper one, then go back and ask the other to beat it.
Play them against each other.

Most trailer manufacturers recommend dealers mark trailers up 40 percent. But is really up to the dealer.

Tom.

Trailer manufacturers dont give retail pricing to their dealers. Its up to the resaler to set the retail price. We are using 2 trailer manufacturers for boat trailers and they both are the exact same. Its totally up to the retailer to price them above and beyond the dealer pricing. That would explain different pricing. sounds like on dealer is trying to make a bunchh and another sell more trailers. Which is a good choice as buying more trailers results in lower prices as well. Which allows more profit also.
