Trailer tongue length

I was given a 1970s Snow Co trailer. It is the tilt type. I noticed a sag in the box steel where the bed frame and tongue meet. It was setup to haul an older 16' tri hull with a monster 1970s 75 HP Chrysler. I now intend to use it for a modified sunfish sneak boat. I am not sure of the finished weight of my project but I am guessing under 250 lbs total (close to the weight of the original motor). I modified the tongue by cutting 22" of length off. I know it will make the tongue weight go up and backing up more difficult but is there anything else I should be concerned with? Thanks for the help.

Can you put your tailgate all the way down or is the winch stand in the way?
On my "new" rig, the winch stand is in the way and my tailgate only goes down 1/2 way. Kind of a pain in the butt.

Other than that you should be fine; your new rig is a lot lighter than the old one so the trailer is under a lot less stress.

It is actually further back than it was. I am debating putting it back on. It would need to be cut down to fit. After reading a article on how to set up a trailer for a sunfish I may not even use a winch. Thanks.

Yes it’s camo-clad. It holds up ok. I have had it on there for 4 years. If you hit something it does tear (stick, bottom etc). I get cheap spay paint and fill in the voids. As you can see the top rail needs touched up. It is almost impossible to get anything to stick to that polymer that the kayak is made of and the CC seems to be my best option. I have a couple sheets I was thinking about using them on the sunfish but I plan on using it as a layout.

You should be fine, you could also move the wheels back if you shorten the tongue of your trailer, but the weight of that boat is negligible compared to the tri-hull.
