Transom Damage

Pic is of a new/2009 4 rivers boat. Has never been in water and was stored from last fall to present day outside. Had hard cover over cockpit.
Came out today to take pics and noticed damage to both sides of transom .
Any one else experience this?
Ideas on how to repair.
Have contacted 4 rivers, yet to hear back.
Thanks in advance - Paul

Paul,

Is your photobucket settings set to resize automatically when you upload? A little bigger picture would be helpful. Looks like the sides are separating from the transom? Was the boat resting across both sides with a heavy snow load?

Paul,

Your images are too small for my tired old eyes to see any detail. The address you provided does not work either. It would be best if you just post the full size picture.

It is an easy process to post the full size picture seeing as how you already have them loaded to Photobucket.

(A) open your photobucket album
(B) move your cursor to the thumbnail of the photo you want
(C) a drop down menu will appear below your picture
(D) move your cursor down to the last item which is image code
(E) LEFT click on it,,,, it will automatically be copied

(F) go back to your write up and left click your mouse in the spot within your write up, that you wish to paste your picture
(G)Then use control/V to paste your picture ( a link will appear for now but the picture will appear in your post)

There was alot of snow. The boat was left on the trailer so it would have had just the weight of the snow ontop.
Thanks to Paul M for posting the larger pic and to Dave for my directions for further pics.
Should say that Tom Boehmer, Pres of 4 rivers has responded quickly and is asking for additional pics too.

The crack on the starboad side comes down to the flange and then starts toward the bow.
The crack on the port side stops at the corner of the flange.

Paul,

Yes this is a better picture. It would appear that the seam is separating. Given the info you have provided I would hazard a guess that the separation was caused by moisture in the seam freezing.

(A) If the entire boat was not covered.
(B) If the seam was not completely sealed across the entire face (mating faces rather than visible area) with bonding material (what ever four rivers uses to glue it together)

THEN

It is entirely possible that moisture wicked into the crack, and then froze. The expansion of the freezing water could easily open up the seam. Just think how large boulders are split in two by the same process.

Man that's a major bummer Paul. I don't have any advice for you. All I know is that this winter was rough. I hope you can fix it.

Thanks Mike.
Have to say thus far Tom Boehmer, pres of 4 Rivers has been very responsive. He got back to me several times today after reviewing the photos and last word as of 9 pm on a Saturday, no less, was he'll make it right.
So hopefully I'll get it back in shape real soon.

Thanks to all on the site, especially Mr McCann and Mr. Meisenheimer for all their help re the damage and posting pics.

Best - Paul
