I always trailered my old Smokercraft with the motor down. But with the new Lund the motor has to be raised a bit to give it enough ground clearance. The Lund dealer said that a chunk of 2 by 4 placed between the mounting bracket and the motor will provide adequate support and ground clearance. So I've been trailering with the wood in there since the fall. However I've had my son watch we back the boat out of the bait shop parking lot a few times and he says that the lower unit comes pretty close to the road. So now I'd like to get a transom saver in order to transport the motor in a higher position and to provide better support against the trailer.
I looked at Bass Pro today and they had two models. A basic Bass Pro model for $40 and a different brand "shock absorbing" transom saver for $75. What would you recommend?
