I have a business trip to make to Chicago in late January, with my significant other coming along. 1/26 & 1/27. Expo to attend at McCormick Place, and looking for a hotel within walking distance to some restaurants. Looks like most lodging is a cab ride to the expo center. the bulk of my business activity is on the 27th, and hoping for an early flight in on the 26th and fly out late on the 28th to have a little bit of "date time" while in town.

Suggestions?

Jim

Jim,

It has been a long time since I lived in Chicago. But, I don't think there is much close to McCormick Place. I believe there is a hotel there. You would be better off finding something closer to Michigan Ave on the north side of the Loop.

Plan on taking a cab. Chances are the weather is not going to be great for walking either.

Tom is correct there is a hotel at McCormick Place but not much else. There are several good hotels in the city, but I usualy stay at the Intercontenintal (505 North Michigan Avenue). Has a Starbucks and a Resturant on the first level and is within walking distance of good food and good shopping on a nice day.

Chicago in January will probably mean taking a cab most places...they don't call it the Windy City for nothin'.

Enjoy your trip

Deep dish pizza at one of the places. Eataly (mario bataly's) has some steller dinner food. If your available in the evening take the lady to Second City comedy/Improv show. Breakfast try Ann Sathers, the stuffed french toast is a thing of delicious yummy goodness. Go to Garrets popcorn off Michigan Ave if you have time. Sprinkles cupcakes are awfully good. Gheridelli choclates has a ice cream shop on Michigan Ave and its not far from the Cheese Cake Factory.

Pizza Giordano,s 815 W. VAN BUREN ST, right by Mccormic then on to Mr Beef on Ohio st, Ricabenee,s by cominsky park for breaded steak sandwich, a couple of chicago hotdog,s take all this and her to the observation deck on the sears tower and enjoy.

OK, my son went to school there for three years.....so, the poor kid eat on the poor side, but would enjoy ever bite.

Sweet Maples is where we went for breakfast each day.....if he had the time. Yea, it was the best breakfast we ate all week. And the most reasonable too. Coffee was good enough. Had to wait in line most days.....nuff said? On Taylor St., along with my next best place to visit...

I enjoy a good cigar.......sooooo, Ralph's cigar onTaylor St is the place to go. No, they don't have heavy leather chairs or couches, but they do have a great place to buy and burn one. Off duty cops and fire fighters spend lots of time there. And if you go, tell them I said "HI".

The Greek isles is a good place to eat too. It is in Greek town.

Oh, one more thing, enjoy it all. Sweet Maples is the best,, bar none!!!?
