UFO owners.

I'm looking to order a new UFO layout boat this month. I'm having trouble deciding on witch one to get the regular UFO or the one with the towable hull. I using a 16' boat for a tender but have friends with bigger boats if I decide to hunt bigger water. I.E. delaware bay. What do u guys think would be my best choice. Thanks

With a 16 ft tender in play I'd definitely go with the towable. That will maximize your ability to use the boat. No matter the tender you will be able to use the layout boat safely. Just my opinion.

I'm not familiar with the UFO layouts but I do use a 16" StarCraft for a layout tender. I will only use a towable layout. My preference is my 10' BBSB. It makes a great layout and can be used as a marsh boat. I find a towable layout much easier to deal with when using a tender on the smaller side.

Jeff,

You cannot go wrong with the towable version. Its basically 2 boats in 1. You can tow it on the light wave days and if needed drag it aboard during the rough seas or emergency situations. Also something that is very valuable with this boat is it can be paddled extremely well for those shallow marshy areas to tuck and hide in as well. The Towable hull was new last fall and only sold a dozen or so. We have had a few comments via email or FB regarding them and everyone seemed to be very happy with it.

A word of caution though. Use common sense towing if it gets to rough you can still submarine one. I did this when testing the boat in 3-4ft'ers on purpose and it wasn't real hard to do. They are light and if towing in rough seas it needs some ballast weight placed in the foot area to hold the keel down on the water for towing otherwise it becomes flighty and will jump waves and that's when it gets hairy as when it comes back down it can and will find the side of a wave and bury itself.

A tough decision to make if you have any questions let me know via pm or give me a call. Also if your close your welcome to stop by the shop and see what we got laying around.

Im not sure where on the delaware bay you are going but please be careful. My first layout was a towable two man and we used a 16ft vhull starcraft. When the tide switched in only 15mph wind we were in major trouble. We almost left everything. There was no warning. Dad and I got back to the ramp and sold the starcraft that week. Now we run a 20 ft privateer. Most of my friends consider me the crazy one of the group.. but i wont go off mahon layout gunning in a 16 footer no matter how many banded canvasbacks someone tells me are out there!
With that said your probably going to do it anyway, until it happens to you, so i would go with the towable.

DuckBoss just introduced a new one man layout boat. It is a towable design. I don't think they have info on their website yet, but give Tom or Rich an email to get the details.

x2....I have fished that bay for a long time and have seen it go from a sheet of glass to 4 footers and howling wind on more than one occasion. Be safe out there!

Here is a photo of the Bottom of the UFO layouts. The towable is the first one. In order to tow a layout it has to have serious lift to the hull during movement yet the hard part sit low on the water to do what its designed to do. Thus the hull design of the Towable UFO. We spent 3 years trial and error designing a hull that is truly 100% towable at high speeds and this is it. After all the time and money invested in this project we protected this hull with the vessel hull act.
