US composites

I have built two boats with them and sealed and glued manyany decoys with it. No problems with it I'll buy more when I run out

I've used Raka and US composite. Both have good products,
US composites is just less expensive.

Good morning, Rich~

A box from them is sitting on my porch right now....

They are at: http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html

I get everything I need from them - for boats and decoys - and have been very happy with them for ~ 3 years now.

I use their 3:1 Thin Epoxy. I always have the 1.5 gallon "kit" in the shop; it's only $71. Their Fairing Compound is very useful. It's a mix of Cabosil and phenolic microballoons and makes a nice sandable filler. With this order, I just bought some 7.5 ounce cloth - to see how it compares with my usual 6-ounce cloth.

Best of luck with your project!

I have used the same US Composites epoxy formulation, as well as their 1708 biaxial cloth, Kevlar 49 cloth and tape, as well as their CoreMat for both repair work on existing hulls and refurbishing a duck boat. I am currently using it and their fiberglass cloth to repair a combing crack on my Poke Boat. After I ran through the last of my Val-oil stash, I now seal my basswood decoy heads with it on composite birds, as well as using it on the whole decoy for my corks. I used one of their 8lb. density foam kits, along with some Smooth-On products to make four dozen mallard pickleweeds off of a carved master. They claim their foam inventory turn-over is quite rapid. However, I found that one of the two-part foam components crystallized a little too quickly to be as "fresh" as they claim.

Thanks for the replys gents.

The boat has been in plans for a while now seems everytime I get close to starting life gets in the way. But over time I have gotten stuff stored away for when I get to start the build getting close now.

I will be useing some kevlar on the bottom and sides of the boat with six once S glass over it.

How well do yall think this will hold up? The waters i hunt has many longs and stumps and the bottom can be sandy in places, no rocks just sandy bottom and logs and stumps.

Wont be running wide open where the logs and stumps are at our lake has boat lans for traveling distances and they have been cleared of logs and stumps.

Will be running a outboard and or a surface drive depending on what are of the lake I will be hunting that day.

Steve,

What is the coverage like with the kit you mentioned? (3-1, 1.5 gal. kit) Can you estimate the sq. ft. you can glass?

Paul

Paul~

I recommend you speak directly with U S Composites ( 561-588-1001 ) and ask them about coverage for different fabrics and lamination schedules.

As an example, my cockpit cover - nominally 2' x 6' - required about one quart of mixed resin for the whole job - which included the seal coat, the saturation coat and the filler coat.

All the best,

SJS

I looked it up on their website under the FAQ section and they say fiberglas mat takes one pound of resin for one pound of glass.

And that typically one gallon will cover 250 square feet.
