V board help

Making a rig of brant v boards next month. What is the best kind/and size lumber to use. No saw some with 3/4"X 2" arms and I saw some 1 1/2" X 1 1 1/2". I want them to float high as possible. I was thinking of using either white pine or white cedar. I don't want the arms bowing and warping. Thanks for any help u can provide.

1x2 pine was enough to float canada goose size with 48" arms. The 1x2 was just barely covered with with water while floating. Larger stock would not have gained anything.

If ya abuse them like i do pine will break on ya i used spruce when i was making them a 2x2 inch,,,,I saw another fella he added asome black pipe foam along the bottoms and by god they sat high in the water,,,,i switched to the plastic Y`s ya buy they hold real geese nice and high and you can see them alot farther then the floater dekes.....last time i used them it pulled in flock after flock from way out in ocean/ bay inlet ,,they came around the bend and started scaling down a mile out,,,,,,id love to pat my back and the rig but we were the only hunters that day and with over a hundred dekes out id say it wasnt a fair go ....but it sure was fun.....

I made my buffy & scaup Y-Boards from 1x2 pine I had laying around. I used them at least 10 years before I sold them to someone else 3 years ago. No problems with warping, splitting or breaking, still going strong as far as I know.
I made the arms 24-30" long, but with larger Brant silhouettes, you probably need a them little longer.
