Have you found these plans on this site yet? They are rather illegible, but show some cross-sections.

Brian, Sorry not a good picture. I did this about 15 years ago. Wood strips on the outside and inside of the hull bolted through and ribs cut on a band saw covered with 1/4" plywood attached to the wood strips. The opening was boxed by Western cedar. The reason I did this I was tired of boat blinds and when the water gets cold I wanted a unsinkable boat. The back which you can't see has a water well which is sealed so no water can enter. The boat is comfortable for two people and a dog. The decoys were tied to the deck while motoring. I had a steering stick inside which was removeable while hunting. I used a apple picker for picking up decoys. I left the seats in the boat and placed a plank across them this could slide to either side of the boat. This worked out well. The down side of this design is it is top heavy if I were to do it again the top deck would be alum. I would also have a front hatch. I found it difficult to store things because the seat was in the way. This was a fourteen foot boat. I would also put a bow mounted electric motor on it for picking up decoys in heavy waves and wind. This was built while I had more time than money Missey, river, strawberry 004 (Small).jpg.

Zack Taylor was the inspiration for the deck over boat. Any decked boat is safer than one which isn't. After a few close calls You either become wiser or dead.

Brian,
If you are looking for a very low profile boat that will hide in minimum vegetation for very small sheltered waters, I would recommend you take a look at the Kara. They are a 1 person boat, but you can build 2 pretty inexpensively. They are designed for hunting in very low stuff (total height above water surface is maybe 8" or so).

These can be built for somewhere between $250-300 each. These are NOT meant for deep, open water, but are very good for shallow, protected water hunting (though a lot of guys use them in impoundments in sheltered coves, etc).

I am planning on building a couple hybrid style boats, more of a flat shape though and used as a "floating layout blind". I will throw them in my big boat and paddle them if need be.
I am going to use this boat for bigger waters when I'm. Y myself, and for smaller waters when I'm hunting with another guy. Mainly a creed/slough/no boat ramp type of boat...

Brian,

When I did this project in 04, I documented it here in a three part report with pictures from plans to paint. Plus a 4th photo essay dealing with the trailer redesign and upgrade. Lots of pictures but unless there is significant interest from others I'd rather email it to you instead of tying up Eric's space. So pm me an address and I'll get them out to you. Enjoy the tease.
