Vermont opener 10/10/15

We had a pretty good morning for our opener here. My boat blind was not ready due to working a little extra the past few weeks so I did not get to enjoy the craziness of the Lake Champlain zone on a weekend opener. We decided to hunt a small lake closer to the house. My girlfriend and her brother wanted to come with me so I picked a spot at a state park on the lake and had a very short walk from the truck. This was the first opener that I hunted only cork decoys. Several LL Beans that I purchased from another Duckboats member a few of my own and a few from some Duckboats carvers. A Pete Revicki Black duck, a Bill Embacher Black duck and a Dave Sikorski hen Mallard were floated.
Had my shooting been a little better I should have had a limit but I made an odd double on a pair of Mallards and we got a pair of Surf Scoter along with a hen Hooded Merganser.

Mallards and scotors in the same bag, now there is something most guys don't see in a lifetime!
 
I envy you with all that water. Secondly, Ed, I noticed that heavy jacket you were wearing so it must have been pretty cool in the morning. Down here we are finally having morning lows in the upper 40sF which is getting better but the highs are still up in the mid 80sF.

Congrats on the nice bunch of birds for your opener. It looks as if you picked a great spot to be at.

Al it was fairly cool that morning, mid thirties. My girlfriend and her brother were with me watching and my lighter camo was being borrowed. We do have a few lakes here. This one happens to be about 1 mile wide by 3 miles long. It typically holds a few puddle ducks but is a sea duck and diver hotspot in November.

Your sure getting me wound up for our season to start which is Nov. 7. Love the classic double! What kind is it?
 
The gun is a Connecticut shotgun manufacture RBL 12 gauge. Not quite a classic but it fires steel so it works for me.
