Vintage Large Bore Shotguns

Another snowy day here in Central Illinois so I finished editing a piece on Vintage Large Bore Shotguns.

Visited the Edgerton, WI Decoy Show a few weeks back and shot an interview with Tom Armbrust and Marty Sands on the shotgun display they had set up. Pretty neat stuff.

Head over to www.thedecoyshed.org and look for the link under the On The Road section.

Hope you enjoy it.

Oh and by the way if you're looking for a leather shell belt to carry around your Brass eight gauge shells or a leather game strap, Marty and Mike Trudel are offering them though their new venture...Big Bore Leather. Nice craftsmanship!

Good stuff Tim! I appreciate you preserving that history.

I'll never forget the time Marty and Mike Trudel came down to Southern Illinois to hunt flooded timber with us at Arrowhead Lodge. When the first greenheads came into their timber blind and, they emptied their 10 gauges, wow!!!! Sounded like the start of D-Day.

Good stuff. Thank you for sharing it. Pat

As usual very well done Tim. I don't think there is anyone this side of the pond as knowledgeable about the big bore guns as those two. On top of that Tom has been doing the ballistics research for 30+years and is considered one of the best in the country.

I haven't tried it on high fliers yet, but the J P Clabrough short 10 I just restored patterns about 90% at 40 yards in both barrels

most long range guns are better than most shooters can lead at those ranges.

Rick,

I have a Clabrough short 10 as well. I've loaded some lead so far and it shoots very well. Taken a few rabbits and pheasants with it. Looking forward to trying it with non-toxic loads. Glad to know there is another one out there getting used!

Great video! I have a Belgium built 10 and love to shoot it with BP loads, I'm dealing on a 1889 Remington 10 right now hope it works out as it's a dandy!!

Thanks for sharing

Fred

I have both an Ithaca NID 10 Magnum and an 1880's vintage Belgian Pieper short chambered 10 gauge hammer gun. They are both fun to take out once in a while
