Due to age and declining health my wife and I are moving into a retirement center likely as soon as next year. I am starting to downsize all my stuff. I am giving most of my guns, all art, books, and decoys to Delta to be sold and the money used toward a wetland. They are going to send someone out from North Dakota to pick it up. One of the guns is a W&C Scott backaction 3 inch 12 bore. This is the gun I dropped in Oregon's Swan Lake and found two years later when the lake dried up. The gun was originally a 10 bore, made in the 1880s. I had it barreled and chambered into a 3 inch 12. After finding it in the lake bed I had Briley put new barrels on it and a friend made a new stock. If someone on this site wants it ahead of going to Delta, I would sell it for $600. That money will go to Delta. It is choked for steel shot and I have fired hundreds of steel rounds with it. The gun looks old and worn. But it is certainly a good shooter! Worth Mathewson

I am interested in your gun. Would you be willing to provide a few pictures? Also, please make sure I understand, it does handle steel shot and can be hunted? Always admired your writing and work. I would feel privileged to own it.
 
That gun has a TON of history with it and an incredible story of survival. I really want to see pictures too.

Derrell, Yes, the gun is entirely shootable. I have used it with steel for years. My wife will take photographs and we will get them to you. We will need your email address. Some more about the gun: It is a backaction sidelock. Those are noted as being the strongest of actions. After being in the lake for two years, the barrels and stock were destroyed, but the action only needed to be cleaned up! The new barrels that Briley put on it cost me $2000.00. So why am I only asking $600? As the gun is now it is only a shooter. It looks worn. If it went to Delta, my guess is that they wouldn't get much more than $600 for it. Perhaps a little more? Therefore I posted it for sale on this site, hoping that it would go to someone who knows the history behind the gun. Again, the $600 will go to Delta. A little more history: At one time I wrote articles for the English magazine, Shooting Times and Country Magazine. During the time we went to Sask. every year, I hosted two of the magazine's editors on different years. They both used the Scott. Best, Worth
 
A truely great gun. You're doing a great thing for Delta. Can you post a picture for all to see. Had a 1889 remington mint, sold it to a gentlman who sent it to briley and had it sleeved. Beautiful...
