Wanted fly tying feathers for 13 year old

David, I'll look ASAP for the Hun skin.

Also does he do any soft hackle flies that use Chineese Pheasant rump patch feathers? I probably have some of that if the mice haven't gotten into the boxes.

He does a great job. I can tell you that the flies look much better in person. The picture was taken with my cell phone and then shrunk to less than 100kb so a lot of detail was lost.

Here are a few flies on their way to Mr. Melville.

That Peeping Caddis (upper left in the photo) is a great fly. He's got the right "shaggy" look. It's often tied with some weight on the head, either a bead, or more traditionally, a small split shot on a short loop of mono tied in at the head.

I'd take that bead head pheasant tail in sizes 14-20 and be pretty happy with my nymph box!

David it looks like he's got the Hun covered and I didn't find a complete Hun skin yet so I'll hold off sending anything. Keep posting up his specific needs/wants and I'll keep looking in the box.

Here is yet another fly tied with the materials sent. This one is on the way to Mr. Jones. As buggy as this looks I think I will need to try fishing one.

I believe this has helped his tying skills as he has had to look up and tie different flies. Different flies need different skills equal a better tier.

But, David, also tell him that for just about pattern that calls for wood duck, hoodie flank is better. I love my Wood Specials tied with hoodie!

In truth, for tying, the two are pretty much interchangeable. (For that matter, for years I tied all those patterns with mallard because I didn't duck hunt and wood duck was expensive to buy.) Hoodie is a little darker, and I think the feathers average a little bigger. It can be tough to find hoodie small enough for smaller streamers.

Going to wait one more week and see what my daughter gets on the youth hunt before mailing you a package. Got pintail, wigeon, gw teal, and cinnamon teal bagged up so far.

Tell Philip thank you, I appreciate the note. Great job on the fly, I'm sure the crappies will love it this spring.

Tim

A box of "Fur & Feathers" for Philip should arrive Saturday. Hope it will be of use, as he ties some fine lookin' flies. I recall what it was like to be his age, and get so fired up and enthusiastic. A fine foundation for the life we love.
