Rinse with water, use a soft brush for heavy dirt/mud spots. Open up and stand upside down and let dry. Been doing this to my canvas bags for years. Mine haven't had any adverse effects to date.
I have some older cotton canvas bags that I long ago painted with a highly thinned oil paint. It preserves them, keeps them cleaner and helps hold their shape.
I sometimes hose them off, but mostly just brush them off. I hang them from the ceiling in the off season to try to keep the bugs and rodents away from them.
just curious why you are washing them? I'm all for taking care of my equipment but never even considered washing (or even cleaning off) decoy bags... if you have a valid reason other than being a clean freak then I might need to do the same, ha.
Just got them really muddy the last two years. Thought it was time to try and clean them up. I do like to take care of my stuff. I just brushed them off with a stiff brush, and I'm satisfied. Thanks for the replies.
I usually just brush my canvas bags with a stiff bristle brush, then hang them from the rafters. I also keep a dehumidifier running in my basement/garage. They can be bought pretty cheap used and they keep moisture out of the basement/garage. You'd be surprised at the difference they make.
I clean mine at the end of the season to get the salt off.
I hose them off then scrub them with a soapy brush then rinse.
my LL bean decoy bags are 40 years old and still going strong.
Canvas decoy bags ??? Just kidding, I do know what they are, just not in my life yet. I do agree- dry is most important, then worry about the mojo. ;-))
