Hey all,

Can anyone recommend some good waterfowl related reading material? Anything on waterfowl hunting How to's,or just stories about being on the marsh.

Roy,

If you do some searches on here you'll find some good responses. I started reading Worth Mathewson last off season and have enjoyed every bit that I have read.

Another vote for Worth. I have read "Big December canvas Backs" a couple times now. I also really enjoy MacQuarrie's stuff too. Successful waterfowling by Zack Taylor is another classic. Luke

Roy-

here is a link to the same question I asked earlier this year. I took a lot of suggestions over the months since I posted this question. Let's just say I have spent a fair sum at Amazon used books. But I have read some great stuff this year because of it. I made a complete list of the books suggested by the various posts. Trying to work my way through them. Likely will take some time.

Van Campen Heilner's " A Book on Duck Shooting" a must have read.

Jode every time you post that up in one of these threads I go home and read it, again. What a wonderful book

I second "Succesful Waterfowling" by Zack Taylor as a pretty good read.

Anything by Gene Hill too.

I heard, actually, my wife loaded it on her Kindle for me to read, there is a brand new book out of several short stories called "Afield". I don't know much about it as I haven't had a chance to peruse the pages yet, but I do know that Tom Brokaw wrote at lest one of the shorts in it. Believe it or not he's quite the outdoorsman.

I don't know however, if there is anything "Waterfowl" related. Where Tom grew up though, Duck Hunting was pretty popular.

Might be worth a look.

In my opinion, the greatest west coast coffee table book is Wildfowl Decoys of the Pacific Coast. The artwork, the history, just amazing. It's a real modern day treasure hunt to find a copy. Took me eight years to find a copy I could afford. Ended up getting it off Ebay under a miss name for $30...no one else bid. It's not a little book things huge. The first section is all B.C. carvers and hunters, then works down the coast clear to the Mex Border..-Seth
ps. Ya Worth's stories rock.

Jon- While I was picking up various books from the list I picked up Afield. It kept coming up as a "you might also like these" selection on Amazon. Finally broke down and bought it because I was able to get it used and because of the mention of Tom Brokaw. I don't recall many, if any, waterfowling stories from the book. It was a good read. Most of the stories are written from the aspect of dogs that we hunt over and the impact they have had on us. There are a number of authors in the book that know each other and have hunted with each other. There are some connections between the various stories due to that fact. While not my favorite book, it was worth the read.
