Waterfowling hat?

Thanks for the feedback so far. I was leaning towards the Filson with the shelter cloth over the Tin when I originally posted so the decision has been made. I want to second the question about it stretching over time. If it's anything like the tin cloth it isn't going stretch. As far as color goes where I hunt dark is good so that is a bonus.

I have the Filson in tin cloth and it hasn't budged, with the way it's build I can't see that it has any way to stretch over time. I can't speak for the shelter cloth though.

I have several Filson products, hat, shirt, huntin' chaps, etc. You don't break them in.......They break You In, and they last a lifetime. Man they never stretch. They R what they R.
Could never get the waterfowl hat to fit just right, but I keep tryin'. The Stormy Kromer is gonna be my next move.

Have both the green shelter and the blaze orange cloth, neither one of them gained in size. Great hats!

That orange hat is my next hunting purchase. I "need" it for pheasant season :)

I wear a Mcalister waxed canvas Jones Cap, it is a high quality hat and good jones caps are hard to find these days.

Another vote for the Filson although I also wear a Stormy Kromer when the weather isn't as cold and it's not raining. Both are great cold weather choices and the Filson is pretty good in the rain. I also have a Columbia Boonie style hat that I wear in the early season that I like real well. I have a rather large head (size 7 7/8 or 8 depending on the hat) so comfort and fit are a big deal to me and I like all 3 of these because the are fitted and not one size fits most. For me finding the right hat is like finding the right women, you have to really work to find the right one and when you do you keep it forever.

So it was 5am Saturday morning and I am putting on my waders and guess what was in my left boot. My Hat!! The tragedy of having no hat has been averted but thanks for the feedback. Wendall, I still think I may ask for the Filson hat as a Christmas gift since it will go nicely with my burnt umber dress that I wear in the blind. You know the one with a splash of olive in it.

Free camo baseball cap from a supplier for warm weather.

Cheapo walmart fleece for cold weather.

Two cheapo walmart fleece for colder weather--one L, one XL.

Two cheapo walmart fleece with a slightly less cheapo Campmor balaclava over the top for really cold weather.

Hood from the raincoat over the top of everything if it rains, sleets or snows.

Neal I've held off to now. I hunt the same places in the same weather as you. I wear a waxed filson ball cap from the Washington Brant Festival, when it starts rainin I occasionally put on a goretex sou'wester (but they leak), been thinking of a Helly Hansen rubber sou'wester, but when it really rains I just put up my neoprene jacket hood.

I tell people that Alaska natives have 43 different words to describe the amount, intensity and duration of snow. Well real northwesterns have 43 different words to describe the amount, intensity and duration of rain. Ever heard of sun breaks? Can you differentiate between fog, mist, sprinkles, drizzle, light rain, rain, downpours, gully washers and a horse and a flat rock? Sometimes you just need a full body neoprene suit.
