Sat. I set out my decoys and my partner Mark arrived the hunt began. Mark got a woodie and his young chessie made a nice retrieve following his nose. Mark had to leave early to coach football and I finished the morning. When I got back home. Carol informed me Pete McMiller was coming a day early. This worked out fine. Pete arrived mid after noon. A lot of good conversation followed and Carol fell in love with Otto ( Pete's chessie ) I think Otto liked Carol too or thought I am going to take advantage of this. You can never be sure of what is going on in a chessie mind. Later Otto looked at himself in the hall way mirror and wagged his tale. What does that tell you about him...I got Carol on a string....she keeps dropping bacon from the counter.
Early Sun Pete and I were up, had breakfast, more conversation and left for the blind. We arrived in time not to early not to late. Just in time for my partner Mark to have set out most of the decoys. I think young guys should do that how else are they going to learn... A nice over cast day followed with a North west wind perfect for the blind we were in. Much better than the dreaded East wind and rain from the day before. A few local educated Mallards buzzed us just out of range. A few Woodies wooshed by. The kind that are gone before you can touch your gun. Finally a couple of Woodie's circled and decided to take a closer look. Mark missed and Pete knocked one down. I was on the second one and down it went. Good I thought It was time for Otto to do his thing. Pete's duck was belly up until Otto got there and then it came to life and dove much to Otto fustration but Otto was persistent and finally the Woodie headed to shore. Otto in close pursuit. Otto won. Meanwhile why we are watching Otto working.. the miracle Woodie took off flying. Mark called a miracle because I hit it. ( those young guys better watch it because us old guys are treacherous ) A few geese were working to our calls and a blind down stream decided they had air craft guns. My partner muttered some thing unintelligible. Air craft guns 0... Geese 100 ...Stories were told, soup was eaten and apple muffins were consumed between ducks flights. I broke a cardinal rule never feed a Chessie until all people have had theirs. Pete had a hundred pound Chessie staring intently two feet from his face while he ate his second one. My thrill was seeing a Chessie take a large muffin in one gulp. Never a second movement of the jaw, It was gone....I counted all my fingers, still there...remarkable...View attachment _IGP7158ee.jpgView attachment _IGP7149ee.jpgView attachment _IGP7147ee.jpgView attachment _IGP7130e.jpg
