Wedge question

I am planning on using wedges on the new boat. It is 17 foot long with a 6 foot beam, 5 feet wide on the floor. What dementions should I use? Where should they be placed? At the edge of the bottom or can I place them closer to the center of the stern/ bottom junction? The boat has a V bottom with a 2 inch deadrise at the stern.

One of these days, EPatterson will post his white paper on this subject...

I just guessed and put 4 wedges evenly space on the hull. 3/4" thick at its thickest and paper thin towards the bow. about 11" long and 5-6" wide.

Worked for me but your boat is 1' longer than mine.

Good luck

I'm curious Howard, is your boat a Lowe Roughneck? I have a friend that has one that seems to need wedges to plane out at lower speeds. Let us know how it works for you.
Thanks

Jesse, This boat is a prototype I am building. It is essentialy a V- bottom DH II 2.5 feet longer and a foot wider with the stern rocker removed. The DH II design can porpoise quit a bit. I have never had much trouble with it myself but I want to build it with wedges just to see what it does. It will be rated for a 45 hp and I hope to have it certified by late July.
