my shotgun went under. About two years ago I bought a Benelli M1 from Brian Story who bought it from Greg Kurz. I guess you could say it's making its way around the forum from coast to coast. Well I really liked the gun but dang if it didn't have the butt ugliest camo job ever laid down on a firearm. I couldn't take it any longer and a couple months ago decided to do something about it. I did some research to see if you can re-dip a gun to a different pattern (Mossy Oak Duck Blind in my case). Turns out it can easily be done. I spoke to Don Mullis from Camo-Solutions and he assured me re-dipping is every bit as rugged and durable as the original finish so I shipped him my gun. Today a box arrived on the front porch. When I opened the box it was if they shipped me a brand new gun. Wow, the attention to detail and finish is better than I hoped for. I'm looking forward to using it this season and am no longer nautiated by the original pattern.

When I took the gun apart I was afraid that saltwater you hunt resulted in bad corrosion. Not a bit. You must have done thorough cleanings when you had it.

That's good, I'm kinda anal about keeping my stuff looking in good shape. I usually just hosed it out with WD-40 and then wiped the externals with RIG.
 
Glad things are going well with the gun! I just picked up a slightly used black berreta extrema with the kick-off. Fits me a ton better than the benelli did. Now there are NO excuses for missing!

Good to know Eric. I bought my SBE with hardwood Max 4 ( maybe ???? ) on it... I have had it for 9 years... the "dip" is wearing off mine... due to this, it is becoming brighter in color.. I have been thinking of spray paint....

I recently painted my Brant and while at it decided to paint an old beater 870 I got in 1987, the first year the Express came out. All the bluing was gone and it was silvery in appearance. I took it apart, cleaned and masked the moving parts, and primed it with PPG Ditzler two part epoxy primer. Then I topcoated it with the two part Limco acrylic enamel paint I used on my boat. Have you seen the tactical 870s? It is similar in color to those and to be honest I doubt anyone could tell them apart at a distance. Since I had the paint already in the gun for the boat I bet it didn't take more than an hour of my time and very little paint. I'm very pleased with the way it looks and it should be crazy durable.

Wonder how many people would pick that "skulz camo" pattern. Maybe if you wear a black hoodie, have whack'em and stack'em stickers on your gun barrel, and refuse to smile you might be in to that.
 
I bet the skulz camo is popular with the paint ball crowd. Then again these days you can't sling a dead cat without hitting a duck call that has a skull on it.

The prices for this service have come down some over the last few years.

$300 Stoeger M2000, one of the few that seem to function well.....

$20 in spray paint....or....get it dipped....

Eric, how did the vent rib area turn out? that has always been a concern of mine was all those little vents under the rib.
 
I kind of like the Skulz effect. I think it might throw off the spinner crowd to have a Sterlingworth done up in full bone effect.

But it might be too contrasty with the wack and stack red lettering on the old barrels.
