What Do Y'all Think of These Decoys

Larry, unless you cut and pasted those pics from a magazine, I think you have that Canon figured out pretty damn good! Are you seeing those birds local? I might have to go for a boat ride! Very, very nice.....

Luke, I'm shooting with a canon 100-400 f/4.5 - 5.6 primarily at gunning distance. Some are heavily cropped. None are photoshopped. I overexposed on the cans.

Dave, these were shot on the eastern shore at a place where the ducks aren't wary, and where hunting isn't allowed.

Here's a hen for you Steve.

Y'all did a good job on those. The only bird I recognize is the mallard! What time of the day were they taken, Larry?
Al

Al,

Those are preening Canvasbacks, landing Lesser Scaup (bluebills), mallard and redhead. I didn't post the widgeon or ringneck.

These were shot in the afternoon to late afternoon. I started shooting in the morning, but it was cloudy and I grossly underexposed those shots.

Outstanding shots!! I am currently trying to develop a pattern for a preening scaup. Any shots in your inventory?

Thanks, Larry. The shot that I like the best is the "Redhead". Well done! It's superb!

RL, I took hundreds of pics and don't have one of a preening scaup. I watched thos birds for many hours and don't recall even seing a scaup preening. The cans seemed to enjoy it.

I have several shots of scaup rising and flapping their wings. If you need those, let me know, I'd be happy to post or email to you.

Outstanding shots!! I'm dreaming of the says of open water again around here. Note to self...get a better lens on your camera!

Steve

Great shots.... not only have you figured out the camera, but you also know enough to get down on the ducks level for a better perspective. I have the same lens, what body are you shooting with? You can use that body with the 1.4x extender with some bodies.

C, I have the 60D and also have the 1.4x extender, but I haven't used it yet. Some say the image quality is poor with the extender, some say it's great. I'll try it out soon. I just learned that taping over the left three pins on the extender will allow the autofocus to work on the f/5.6 lens, although it might be a little slow.
