WHat do you know about Brunton optics?

Mike,

Brunton compasses have been around for many years. geologists sware by them. I didn't know they were making binocs, but then again i haevn't been looking for a new pair.

Mike

I have a pair of their binoculars. I bought them knowing they were not Steiners or another high-end brand and wasn't expecting them to really hold up to the abuse of wet/humid waterfowling enviroment. They have far exceeded my expectations and after three years there is no internal fogging or any other problem that I had with other binoculars over the years. I find them to be very clear and crisp with good magnification and light gathering, more comparible to the high end makers than those of their cost competition. If my pair was lost or stolen I'd buy another without hesitation. For the money they are hard to beat.

Mike,

I have a set of their binoculars. I like them a lot and they have served me well. I don't glass as much as some of the western hunters so they are good for my needs. They had all the things I was looking for - waterproof, bk-4 optics, multicoated, blah, blah, blah. And they were cheap (www.sportsmansguide.com).

They still have them (or at least similar) = you can't go wrong for the price: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=108950

I also have a friend that spent some insane money on high end Brunton binoculars - he got a divorce later that same year... coincidence???

Mike,

Brunton makes some good optics. As a birdwatcher though, I've looked through many binocs, and the improvement in quality increases with the tag. Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica, Leupold, etc. are all super-expensive binocs, but they are extremely efficent at gathering light in low-light conditions. I've found it helpful to identifying ducks coming in right at daybreak, or right when the sun is going down. The crisp image is hard to beat, and they are waterproof- I've used mine underwater!

The downside is they are expensive, and there's many comparable brands that also do the same job- clearly magnifying whatever you're looking at. I'd say go with Brunton unless you stake a gold claim anytime soon... =)

Hope this helps,
