What is this?

I am finally done with the Mossberg 195KA Bolt Action 12G. This one piece is left on the bench and I can not figure out where it goes. It's called a Main Spring Washer. It is about the size of a contact lens and that tail/tab is about 1/32 of an inch long and that hole you could barely get a pencil into. It is made of cheap thin metal and you could bend that tab with little effort. The only spring in the gun is inside the bolt, and this thing can't fit in there so.......anyone recognize this? I've looked at schematics but I can't get them to expand on line to see where this thing goes. View attachment 737620.jpg

Maybe you can get some info from the following;

Good morning, Mc~

Can't help, butI am reminded of Aldo Leopold's advice on biodiversity and endangered species:

?To keep every cog and wheel is the first precaution of intelligent tinkering.? .

All the best,

SJS

A quick check shows Numrich Gun parts has schematics for lots of old mossbergs and they show your part but out of stock. Check them out .

paul strip bolt down again the washer should go to spring side of firing pin has a nut screwed down on going back to bolt handle I believe called main spring nut not positive but worth a look rick

Yeah, now that you mention it, the slight concave of the washer matches the "bowl" shape of the interior of the bolt tube.
I'll give it a shot after work, thanks, I think you're right.

paul no pics of bolt but would think main spring nut main spring washer which way it goes on you have to play with good luck hope it works out I just restored a 1909 auto loader Remington new stock and rebuilt the bolt and springs shoots good

Ding Ding.....you win. As soon as I took that rear nut off the bolt, I could see that the washer was going to fit, thanks. I closed it all up and loaded a 2.75 low brass and it clicked but didn't fire. But I did notice that I got one more 1/4 turn out of that nut so I'm sure that was it. The round had a dimple on the primer but not enough to set it off. I'm going to fire it this weekend and see.
I'm moving on to a Stevens 12g pump next. Thanks again.
