What was your first set of hunting decoys

Thank you
for the information on the pintail decoys
I have the model 50 decoys and they are hollow
your decoys are very nice
I painted mine once when I got them --- they could use another paint job
with the information you have posted maybe I will give it a go !

Victor wood Bluebills. About 14 of them. Used them for everything and they worked. My Dad would have bought them in the 1920's. Still have them.

Wow you lucky man! You got to start your hunting with wood decoys. That must of be really great . What kind of shape are they in today? Thanks for sharing your first decoys with us.

The first decoys that I hunted over were my Dad's He had two dozen of the Plast-Duks with the red valve in the tail end. He had them stuffed in his old service duffle bag. When we got out to the marsh; it was my job to start blowing up the decoys as we motored out to the spot that we were going to hunt. We had a wood ribbed boat that was glassed over with a 3 HP Johnson "Duck Twin" weedless out board.

I still have the Plasti-Duks. but I have given some away over the years as additions to friends collections. I still have Dad's DuckTwin and I still use it every year on the back of my pumpkin seed.

Somewhere along the way; my Dad upgraded that old wood/blass boat to a Grumman sport boat. And I still have it stashed in corner of the barn. I don't use it for anything other than early season scouting because I consider it a "death trap" that thing has been rolled multiple times and hunters and gear dumped; it's not much better than a canoe.

Those blow up decoys were really cool. I'm glad you still have some of them. If you get a chance post a picture of one. The boat you talk about brings back memories. Been wet many times in and lost a ton of gear lol. The good old days. Glad your hanging on to your dads stuff. That what life is all about pasting things from the past down. And remember the great people that left them to us. Thanks for sharing.

I always hunted over my families spread and I kicked in to add to that but I will always remember my first dozen NEW decoys. Shortly after moving out of my parents house and securing a "real" job I ordered a dozen swivel head mag G&H. I still have them and have not added a drop of paint to them in 22 years.

G&H Always had a great product. I still have some of them from way back when. Many of us are not blessed with the skill to crave our own decoys. And not rich enough to have cork or any other kind of high priced decoys. Duck hunting isn't a cheap sport at any level. So be proud of what you got. Because if they work they are the best decoy you could own. I have spent thousand of dollars over the years on both duck and goose decoys. High priced ones and some cheaper ones. I love the ones that pull in the birds. Most of the time their not the best on the market. But I have been putting birds in my boat for more then forty years. I killed them over g&h, carry lite, , cork and foam, plastic and even wood. Just about any brand out there I have tried. So I think if you like what you have. Then they are the right decoys. Thanks for your story.
