Still tying up loose ends on my Spring House.....

I will soon be able to remove the staging and old plywood walls I've been using for dry and stable footing - and sow some White Clover on the very soft and wet ground where the spring seeps out of the hillside.

Nice lookin little shed but I,ve got a question about it. Do you pump from it for water in place of a well or has it other uses? Being a flat lander here on E.S. of Md. very rarely is a spring encountered and drilled wells are our means for water.

That spring is our sole source of water - no drilled or dug well. There is a separate pump house halfway up the hill that draws water from the spring house and pushes it up to our home.


Good tasting water - when I'm not wading around in it as I was yesterday.

That's a whole lot less costly then a well. I,m guessing a drilled/ washed down well in your area has to go deep and probably thru bed rock . Very few natural spring in my area with a few feeding ponds , usually struck from dirt excavation for building.
 
Great start all.

After a few attempts I ended up with a starting point for swing weights, it is a good thing I have a lot of scrap wood to play with. I'm going to try and make it a bit smaller, currently weighing 2.5oz there is already a big improvement over the first mold that came out to over 6oz.

The hen wasn't quite done but I couldn't wait and had to see how she would float with the swing weight.

Hello Everyone,

New forum member here, this is a great site and it's nice to see it still very active. Also cool to share a forum with a guy like SJS, thank you sir for all the painting tutorials online. All of my homemade diver blocks follow your paint patterns.

My work isn't nearly as nice as a lot on here, but it is fun to tinker with duck-related stuff in the offseason. I've been working on a set of V-Boards. I hunt the north shore of Lake Erie where most guys hunt geese in the fields, I am hoping that the birds will respond well to decoys on the water. I don't think I like the brown on the frame, so I might try a grey instead.

I've also been working on a new-to-me boat, just a 14' tin boat to hide in the reeds and hunt more with my dog. She started off red so this should hide better now. Most of my hunting is layout shooting with my 19' tender boat which isn't very conducive to bringing the pup along. As fun as layout shooting is it will also be nice to hunt solo and only bring 30 decoys.

Nice sillys, yep, grey support bars blends in better. but by time the geese notice its too late!
I used to use sillys for buffleheads before good buffie dekes that were affordable came onto the market. They worked great.

Welcome Sean, exciting to have another Southern Ontarian.

I used tremclad flat gray paint on the arms/frames of v board sets and they blend in nicely.
 
A bit off topic, BUT for you youngsters, tomorrow is the 76th anniversary of D-Day.

Had my wisdom teeth taken out Thursday so Haven't been doing too much intense activity the past few days. Decided it would be a good time to repaint a canvas swan and finish painting a new canvas swan along with 2 big silhouette that will attach to the Jon boat when I have no place to hide it. Plan to make a couple more sometime.

Wisdom teeth... Brings back not fond memories, dry sockets, meds, and liquid pain killer many years ago.

Thanks for the compliments. I need to make a lot more, one of the best confidence decoys for around here.

Hopefully I don't get the dry sockets luckily it was only two teeth, my lower wisdom teeth never existed.
