What's on your WORK BENCH ? - MARCH 2001

All~

I'm done with this batch of Super Ducks - by Chesapeake Decoy Company - now all Black Ducks, of 2 different sizes.

Here are the Hens - "standard size"?

Of the 3 head positions, this is my favorite. As is my convention, I paint the speculums on Hens but not Drakes.

Here are the 3 Drakes - which used to be Mallards.

Here are larger birds - Super Magnums?

Here is one of 3 bags full.

And here is the next dozen - all of the larger model.

All the best,

My workbench has been clear for a long while. Whole bunch of house issues and been at my mother-in-laws since August. So not much has been worked on that I had planned to work on this past year, and time just got more restrained. Next hunting buddy is on the "bench" now.

And about the house here is Jonah watching the "medium" excavator as he called fix our collapsed septic tank.

When I was a tyke, I remember a lot of the carpenters had their boxes with all of their tools on large jobs. Usually four saws, large and small planes, Chisels and miter box. All have a special place in the box, no space waisted. Saw one on U tube that was a real piece of art with draws and the like. Real carpenter.

Charles,

Looks comfortable, I can see myself emptying cans on that. Quality workmanship for a plywood piece. I bet you'll make some pretty ones out of select wood.

SJ Fairbank, I was surprised by how comfortable it was sitting by a fire last night. Now I'm thinking it could work really well as a seat in a Sneakbox.

I had the same thought, either in a boat or in the grass along the bank. Put a gun rest on your shooting side, pretty sweet.

Congratulations Ben, looks like a busy household. Nice work to all this month, lots of good projects.

With the warm weather I pulled the boat out to access the bandsaw for the first time in 4 months. Cut out all the "little duck" heads(and one goose) planned for the rig this year. See how carving progresses this week and what I can find for bottom and tail boards in the disorganised garage.

Ben,

Congratulations!

Yer gonna need, more "Shootguns", decoys, boats, etc., for your growing family of hunters. [smile]

Best regards
Vince

Vince,
Jonah who is 2.5 year old was just talking to me about shooting elk and catching squirrels, my poor wife didn't have enough warning for all of this hunting.

Gonna be soon looking to get my oldest some guns but is left handed so will be a little more difficult.

Ben,

I'm pretty certain that your wife is the glue that holds everything together, and that you provide all the help that she may need.

If Jonah becomes a good .22 shot at "catching" squirrels, elk may very well be in his future. YUM-YUM!

Just because your oldest is Left handed, does not mean he will shoot Left handed.

Depends on his dominant eye.

I have been Left handed my entire life.

But my dominate eye was my Right eye. My uncle and his best friend noticed that when I was young, and set me straight.

A cataract in my Right eye (hopefully repaired this year) has now made my Left eye dominate. Still shoot right handed, but close left eye now, and do not like it.

Best regards
Vince

Best to be totally dominant on that side. I am sinister, gauche izquierda. Right now, with the left arm in a sling, life is kinda interesting!

Congrats on the new future hunting partner...great chance for more gear and time outside!

Those Superducks turned out sweet Steve.

Obi, hope the wing is healing nicely and you can get back in the dungeon soon.

I'm plugging away at some whistlers, but finished up this teal pair while waiting for other stuff to dry.

Hey mate, try hitting that hen with a wash of raw umber. May be the daylight, but she seems rather light. Give it a shot![w00t]
Wend down in the dungeon yesterday when I snuck a laundry down to do for the boss. Just waiting for the pt folks to tell me I can paint, maybe make keels. Shoulder still a bit sore, but expected.. Have had the sling off most of today--feels good to be shed of it for a few hours.
