Started RBM in January putting a few splits in. And carving mallard heads for next years rig.

Initially, Joe, your picture did not post...VERY Nice work. Please post the RBM and the mallards when you finish them.

Wow! You've been busy Steve. Nice project.

I'm trying to wrap up a few birds for our NJ show on Saturday the 24th.

These Bread Ducks are the latest to get finished.

Plus a few calls, Mr Gobbler will be strutting soon!

Nice Jode, both the decoys and the calls. What is the lid on that box call made of?

Good morning, Joe~

Spectacular Shelldrake! I really like the way you handled the crest. (But, what kind of fish?)

I look forward to your progress.

All the best,

SJS

Thanks Tod, I scored a small board of Leopardwood last year, there was just enough to get lids for this years call run. It's hard, but grainy, sort of like Ash, but with killer figure. It sounds nice when put over a softer box, I.E. Mahogany or Sassafras

Nice work Joe! They sure look better then when they were laying on my freezer! Looking forward to the finished product.

John --- I didn't realize I got them from you. All the bodies are repaired and have full length 3-1/2" wide bottom boards to stiffen them. That was the way Al McCormick toughened his cork decoys and his did last. The short skinny Cabelas keel didn't add any strength and contributed to the tail breaks. The missing chunks are all filled and so far one has a new head.

All~

George Williams is working on a "drinking buddy" for his "Speckled Teal" - headed soon to Argentina.

Never having been south of Florida, I Googled this South American species and found that the Speckled term refers to either of two species, the Yellow-billed or the Andean Teal.

This looks like the Yellow-billed to my eye.

BTW: The scientific name Anas flavirostris translates to "duck with yellow-bill"......

All the best,

SJS

I was introduced to that one as pato barcino. One of my buddies called it a baby pintail, due to a slight resemblance to the yellow billed pintail-pato maicero. Bigger, and more brown than buff.

Looks like the nor'easter that is due to whack us as a Spring gift tomorrow will keep me busy with the snow blower, and sealing and painting of the Barcino.
Thanks, Steve.[;)]

Joe:

Them six were the casualties of shipping, I acquired a estate in Indiana or Illinois and them six did not make the trip well. I had limited time and never dealt with cork so I figured it was best there were left for guys like you that know how to rescue them. The remainder found homes, I hunted a dozen this fall, they rode the water real nice, big profile in the water.

Good morning, Joe~

Great work on both birds!

Question: What mixture did you use to fill/coat the first bird?

All the best,

SJS

Aeropoxy Light ... I have used it often on model airplanes. Extremely light weight and sands beautifully.
