What's on your WORK BENCH ? - NOVEMBER 2020

Good morning, Ben~

Great bird!

You've got me wondering, though....life-size of mini?

Also, the weave of the fabric seems open. What is it - and how do you seal it?

All the best,

SJS

Steve,

It measures slightly less than or right at 4", haven't measured the whole thing. And as far as the covering it is pretty open and is just cotton cloth, for this size I like to use it because it's more pliable and shows the weave pattern once painted which gives a good texture for the mini size. I have used white t-shirts in the past but there are more stretchy than I would want.

Steve,
The tacks are left over from college, we did some miniature canvas wing covering for a project. I wish I knew where they got them from because they are perfect for this and would be useful for other projects.

Chris,

Toss it in the water and SEE what happens.

Just a suggestion.

The bottom board (foundation) IS very important. It should be large enough and thick enough, (well designed) to float properly and support the weight above the waterline.

The less weight and mass above the bottom board, the better the decoy will function.

Looks like you did a very good job with the wires and stringers, as well with the paint.

"The beauty and function of canvas covered decoys is in their simplicity. Folks that make them complex, and ornate defeat the purpose of their origin." VP

Best regards
Vince
