What's on your Work Bench ? OCTOBER 2017

Good morning, David~

Very nice!

I've been wanting to carve a Gadwall for a long time. I'll be carving some gunner heads soon - but think I might try a "mantel-piece" Grey Duck after the seasons - with an oil paint job.

All the best,

JS

Steve,

Thanks Steve, I really enjoyed seeing your rehab Gadwall in your earlier October WB post. Can't wait to see your oil Gaddy!

Hello George ,
Vice grips work really well ( just kidding) , I like to hang our ducks 3-5 days , & then give em a go , if they won't pluck the filleting knife comes out . Your right, they can be tough to pluck !

I don't have any trouble plucking either ringnecks or ruddys, just use the wire wheel on my bench grinder [;)] .

They are also rather difficult to get clothing off. When still warm, they are simpler, though. Have not taken a ruddy in quite a while, so memory is rather vague on that one. Ringers have always baffled me, though. Similar problem with snow geese, also.[:/]

"Dollar Ducks" cuz that's what they would bring for the market hunters. The poor man's Canvasbacks.

Have shot them and eaten them in three flyways. Tastiest ones out west in the duck factory.

They show up everywhere, from small marsh to big water, and are very sporting on the wing. I like to have a Ruddy decoy in the rig. If none show up, it still makes me smile when I look at it doin' it's job.

Rick~

Work for a living???? Oh - I guess they're hanging out on a park bench because it's a holiday.....(actually, they look like fine gunners).

All the best,
SJS

[cool] [cool] [cool]

now that was funny-

its the last of their vacation, work starts in three weeks

and hopefully they get more work than the guides decoys in the north country this past weekend did -

Tom,
Great looking Bull Can. I have had a similar fire...well more fires like that than I care to admit!

Matt,
I really like the green blending on that Wigeon's head.

Awesome work guys!

Yo, Modin, how come you laid the speculum on that bird in reverse?[whistle]
Good to see you are back on the bench again.[;)]

Steve- seeing what you have done with the Herter’s 63’s made me pick up a few at a garage sale. They were black duck stool but 63’s are kind of small for the Great South Bay. I’m thinking teal although they probably won’t be ready this season. Thanks Tom
