Auto for me. I agree that pumps are fool proof. The reason I use an auto is because it makes me feel like a high roller. Hunting is one of the few things I do that is completely pointless and done for no other reason than my personal entertainment. I do it because I like to and no other reason. So, I like to do it right. I like to hunt out of my homemade duckboat and I like to use my over-priced Italian made automatic shotgun. It just makes me feel good. I don't get paid by how many ducks I shoot. I don't get a Christmas bonus for getting my limit as quickly as possible or at all. If my gun jams and I don't get a shot, I really don't care. That being said. If you maintain a well made auto-loader properly there is no reason it shouldn't be very reliable. If you don't have any interest in properly taking care of your shotgun then an auto-loader is not for you. I think it is all about personal preference. Use whatever you like. It's just for fun.

I run the same setup for ducks and light geese, 11-87 20ga with #2 shot. So light!

12 ga Rem 887 pump with full choke for Canada geese

12 ga Turkish Hugla O/U upland with both barrels IM

Browning Citori Lightning in 12ga. Mod/Full chokes unless I am hunting the river for wood ducks. Then I will put in a skeet choke.

duck, goose, an 1892 era. parker EH 10 ga, shooting 2 7/8ths inch shells loaded with 1 1/4 oz bismuth 4's for duck and 1 3/8ths oz bismuth BB for geese. what a killer. scott

pump, no doubt currently have 5- 870s (2 are dedicated sluggers, my favs the oldest, pre choke tube has afew diff barrels 26skeet, 28mod, 30full, and an older smoothbore slug. battered beaten and always reliable) few500s that never get used and a bps 10 ga gets used on occasion. I have a few autos, even an old A5 belgian inherited from my dad when he passed, but they really only ever see the skeet range I just always grab for the 870

Walmart Beretta 390. Best bargain semi around, IMHO. Black plastic is good for mud, the bottom of the canoe, and salt water.

870. I grew up shooting a regular 2 3/4" 870 I got for Christmas in 1975. I was 13 years old. When steel shot came out, I felt I needed maximum power and bought an SBE. I hunted with that gun, shooting 3 1/2" Federal Premium Steel #2 shot for the most part, for more than 10 years, but never killed as many ducks as I did with the old 870. So I saw an 870 Super Mag at Walmart one day and bought it a couple of years ago. I tried shooting 3 1/2" shells out of that, and got a bruised cheek and left 2nd finger for my pains. It didn't kick like a mule. It kicked like two mules. I bought a super shock absorbing recoil pad from Cabelas; did not help. I finally bought a pistol grip stock, and that took care of the bruised finger. Then, I switched to the Black Cloud, number 3 shot, 3" shells. That cured the bruised cheek and I'm slaughtering the ducks once again. The SBE collects dust mostly, but is my turkey gun.

Semi-auto Rem. because of all those positions you get yourself into in a pair of waders where it is a problem to rack a pump gun. For the few times it malfunctions I can live with it.

Semi-auto Winchester SX2. The fastest way to waste some shells, hehehe. My first shotgun was a Mossberg 500 pump and I'll never go back. Semi's are just too easy.

"Well," he said, "as your attorney I advise you to buy a....

"No way," I said. "Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?"

Remington Versamax... used to shoot the 870, but once I got the duckboat I realized its hard to pump with your left arm when swinging to the right while sitting down. I few short strokes and missed opportunities on ducks made me convert...
