Where's the Soap?

Long before most Earthlings are up, each morning in the desert southwest, I get to sit out by the pond and watch an exciting event. The black-chinned hummers love to take baths and will do so long before the sun comes up. I guess that makes me lucky that I am a duck hunter because I always get up early.
Most of the time I just observe because the lenses that I have are limited in their ability in the poor light settings. I don't mind, however, just because it is great to be at the pond to watch.

These ten pics happen to be of the male black-chinned hummer. Yesterday morning I had at least a dozen of them flying about wanting to take a bath but as it is with the feeders or a patch of perennials that the hummingbirds enjoy, the alpha male or female takes over.

You can just begin to see this little guy's gorget. When the light hits it just right, the purple color is dazzling.

Cool photos Al.
My sister saw a hummer by her pond a couple days ago so I'll have to get my feeders out soon. If alpha hummers weighted a pound we'd have to wear hard hats all summer. :-)

I got a chuckle out of that, Tim. I was also thinking that "flak jackets" might be in order.

I heard the Thwuk sound as it hit the window. Thought it was dead for sure.
