White Hull.

Hello everyone. Thinking of not winterizing my Sturdee-Dory and using it for some duck hunting on Long Island Sound. Is the white hull a huge issue ? Thinking of draping some camo burlap around it while hunting and building some sort of temporary blind. I see down south they hunt seaducks out of the cockpit of 30+ foot fishing boats with white hulls. I posted a couple of seasons ago and I think Tod mentioned a rock blind setup. Also saw some Mar pro Temporary camo paint online. Might go that route if necessary. Any thoughts? Thanks!
 
I talked to a couple of guys on Green Bay several years ago that had been hunting out of a white hulled fiberglass boat in the 25 ft. range - like a Mako or similar. They said it didn't matter the ducks still came in. I would imagine that it works better on new and unpressured birds. After they are around awhile I bet they'd be skittish of a big boat like that.

I have not done much actual Sea Duck gunning. But, as you may have seen on my recent posts (esp. the Horal and Skidmore Scooters) about 3 different Great South Bay Scooters I restored recently, many thousands of Broadbill and other divers have been shot from White boats on the south side of Long Island. Note, though, that the gunners, too, wear white.

All Grey probably would make a difference over the long haul, but I'm sure you'll do fine.

Are you hunting sea ducks? Those old camo netting tarps work great for covering up a boat. I think if you use something like that to break up the hard lines of the boat, you should do fine.

A friend of mine used to kill lots of eider and scoter out of his all white lobster boat back in the 80s and early 90s.
