Who made these decoys?

I picked up a pair of foam decoys yesterday. The bodies are hollow with a oak stringer keel and foam head. Any thoughts on the maker? I plan on refurbishing them and adding new heads.

I suspect the decoy may have been poured using one of the several DIY aluminum molds available. Just a guess.

I think Herter's carried that mold about 45 years ago. You put foam beads in it and boiled it and the foam expanded.

One caveat: don't use spray paint on white foam bead decoys, the solvent will eat them away.

I believe that I have a pair of those, blackduck. They are a little petite but a beautiful shape. I think my heads are different.

The ones I have are decent sized decoys, 17 by 8.

Do you know what kind of foam? Back in the 1970s-80s, Strux Foam in Lindenhurst molded some nice big birds. I believe they were a dense urethane.



A friend in West Sayville had a Broadbill rig of theirs; we included one in the LIDCA Broadbill exhibit in 2015.


And, I believe Strux molded this sweet Brant - from a Wildfowler master.

I?m not sure of the foam, it?s a very dense hard white foam. I thought it was odd not to have any type of brand or logo on the mold. I made a couple of new oak keels and cedar heads and they just need paint.
