WHY?????!!!!!

Why am I having a difficulty removing decals from my motor cowling? It is not in pristine condition... I have no emotional attachment.... Painting is the most economical way to camo it.....

it is a 1989 50 hp ... not terribly worried about resale... will spend the rest of its life on my Scaup....

The best way I found to take the decals off my Yamaha hood was with a heat gun. I tried stripper and that was just a mess. Then I finished up with a orbital sander.

Yeah...I intend to use a heat gun... and sander... I am just having a difficult time starting... and... it is not in great shape!

Paint it flat black with a skull and crossbones, call it your motor's hoodie. You'd probably increased the value by 20%. :)

Phil, Just get the edges of the decals loose and then shake, rattle & spray. I really like short pieces of camo duct tape and let the ends come loose then paint. Or hot glue short pieces of baling twine to the hood - then paint. As long as you are sure (and that is the problem) just let er rip. AND If you are worried about resale, just remember if you sell it here it probably adds 25% to the value. heh heh

Add the words "Dead Dux" or "Meat Grinder" or something like that, and tack on another 10%!

Try peeling a corner and use a "Goo Gone" product or even lighter fluid to loosen the adhesive on the decal. Then just slowly peel it off.

I know what you mean...I have friends who were appalled that I painted my brand new ETEC...didn't bother me at all.

Phil seems classier then that... maybe "Cut 'em!" or "Hamma' Time!"

I felt the same way toward my 1985 vintage, very clean Merc, so I built an olive drab cover to hide it and protect it from road and sun damage.

I just couldn't bring myself to paint that vintage motor...

My homemade cover...

I hear you Phil, still haven't painted my 25 Merc and never did paint my old Nissan 18hp. In the end, I think not painting my Nissan helped me sell it when I bought my "new" boat.
I simply made a motor cover with burlap.

Lol... I don't want it to look like your boat, Dave!!! Hell... I might as well have a lab ! ;)

Phil,
Found a motor cover for you. (One I wasn't using anymore, found it in the back of my closet)
