Has anyone any opinions on these doubles? I am in the market for a O/U, Cabelas will have these on sale next weekend. 12ga 28" barrel 3". Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on the gun. Never owned a double before and this looks like it might be a good starter gun.

I'm a big fan of the 101.

It should be steel shot safe but the chokes might be a little tighter than preferred.

if it feels good, buy it!

I do not own own one but have shot one. Great gun. The owner swears by it. Shot ducks and ptarmigan with it in AK. How much is Cabela's selling them for ?

Mike,
I love the 101... it's one of my favorites. I have one in field grade with 2.75 chambers and it's my prime duck gun. I also have it in a pigeon grade and have used that also for duck hunting but also sporting clays...great shooter.
On top of that, I have a model 96 and that's considered the "poor man's 101". It's in 20 gauge and it fits like it was made for me.
Yup...go for it.

That is a great price on the 101,I have shot one a fell in love with it.It is on my must have list.Winchester also has a model in camo

Used to shoot skeet with a couple of guys that had 101's. One of them said the only thing wrong with the gun was it cause him to look down his nose at us common men.

So are we talking about the original 101's pre 1988 or the newer model re-released a just a few years ago? I have been and still do shoot a 101, late 60's vintage, if we are talking the new generation I have no experience with these.

The "made in Belgium, assembled in Portugal" is not the Japanese '60's and 70's 101 in any way... Browning (owns Winchester) making due with a recognized tag. We've had new and used 101s; new model never lit the market on fire, but seems to be decent value for the price.

The 101 is a good O/U shotgun. There is a better price for a new one on gunbroker.com, for $1,200 with free shipping (Auction # 274167565).
