The area I hunt is rather exposed. Virginia blind laws prevent us from hunting close to shore as the shore is locked up with blinds. Generally we must be 400yards from shore, which is why we are exposed. The next challenge is we hunt tidal waters, and the bottom is generally a minumum of 4ft of soft mud. What works best are anchor poles. 18ft fiberglass poles at the bow and stern with a short line prussic knotted to the pole, cliped to a ring on the hull. Because of the depth, there is some spring in the poles and depending on the wind, eventually get pulled out and we have to reset them.
I use the Windy app, and OnX with the wind active, though I don't know how timely these are? What I would like to have on hand is a way to measure the actual wind speed, and direction to compare to the apps, and also get an idea of what are true comfort zone is. Seems like winds over 10, and gusts over 20 are kind of where we get frustrated, but that is what the apps tell us.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced anemometer that is appropriate for outdoor use? I can search Amazon and the internet, but figure someone here might have some experience.....
Thanks,
