I'm wondering if I can modify a Kara boat hull to add some high sides similar to a Roy boat. If someone with a highside boat wouldn't mine taking some measurements for me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks Ed. I was thinking of posting a similar request. I had hoped to see a Roy high boat at the Ocean County Show but didn't see one. I was planning on using a 12 ft glass planing boat now setup as layout boat.

These are the dimensions on mine. I have had mine since new built back in 2012

Overall length...12'6"
Cockpit length...74 1/2 inches
Cock pit width front...29 inches
Cock pit width rear right before motor well...33 1/2
Cock pit height front...17 1/2
Cock pit height rear right before motor well...21 inches
Length from handle to front of cock pit...55 inches
Width of the transom is roughly 58 inches
Height of transom from center to top is 18 inches. Some are taller due to running a long shaft motor.
 
Thanks for the information John. I always like the looks of this boat but I'll never see one on the Mississippi river. I'll have to see what I can come up with.

Josh, that would be a good boat as well. I have a couple of ideas in my head. One is to pull the front bench seat out of my 12' Sylvan and deck it similar to what Scott Farris did to his boat and the other is I have the plans for a Kara but I don't like laying down any more to hunt so if I could have high sides like the Roy boat I could use a milk carton with a seat on it and sit up. The problem with the Sylvan is it's a tippy hull. I'm hoping the Kara is stable like the Four Rivers Refuge Runner I had "that I should have never sold". Plus Devlin's plans have gotten to pricey for an old fart like me.

I thought and can be completely wrong but that the boat started with some sort of a speed boat hull that roy cut down to make into a duck boat then built a mold from the cut down boat. My issue with a tin boat or a Kara is they don't have much stability. I had a bluebill for a few weeks and was really impressed with it until i found out it was rotten. I think if i added a inch to each station line for length and 4-6 inches to the sides for height it would hunt great for two guys over the side. If i find a roy boat ill be buying one where i live i don't think many boats are better for my type of hunting.
