I am in serious duck withdrawl!!!! I am in such desperate neet of some waterfowl action that I am watching the duck commander.... I figure it is about 35 weeks until the main season in Iowa starts....

Working for the man and jonesing for duck season............. I hate to say it Phil but your screwed.
Rick

I have about 25 ducks in the freezer to mount... so that might help... but since I am "working for the MAN" now, I have to plan out when to flesh it... and when to mount....

Put the final touches on a whitetail today.... but they are not as fun for me!

i started this about an hour after sunset the day the season ended. I have been staring at it since wondering if its too fat but it eases the pain

Don't feel bad Phil, you could have been frozen out the last 4-5 weeks of the season like I was. But you could always go to Argentina. I hear May is the best month.

I can deal with Ice... it is rare.... even in the northern midwest that, if you work hard enough that you can't find duck when there is Ice...

I know I feel your pain so maybe this will help you, Phil.

Are you feeling better now?
Al

Hey Phil, try sitting on the sidelines for an entire season with a bum hip, while you keep records for your buddies who hunt the marsh with you!!
I just carved all season, did some hollow stuff, got back, playing with some Wiley cork that has been living in the dungeon for a LONG time, and am getting ready for replacement surgery.
Now, when the rehab et al is done, i expect to be ready to head back to Argentina, at least one more time.
Meanwhile, remember that every day is a gift from your Maker.. Use each one well!

Phil, Ever think about crow hunting? Before you start laughing hard, let me explain. It sure has helped me get through the off season for years. You scout, set decoys, use a call (mouth or electronic) and get behind your shotgun. Much like duck hunting you are shooting birds over the decoys! It is great exercise especially if the snow is deep. In Michigan we have a split season of Aug/Sept and Feb/March. It is a great warm up for the upcoming season and a way to get through the long Winter. I've found crows harder to hunt than divers. You always have to think of new ways to outsmart them. According to some sources, one crow is responsible for the destruction of approx 100 ducks per year.(eggs/ducklings). I don't eat them but they don't lay around long with all the other hungry critters wanting a free meal.

Great pics... not sure if they made me feel better or worse though!!!

I will shoot a passing crow, but I have no interest in chasing them around... Crows are very smart... Divers aren't hard to hunt....

I need WATERFOWL...

Phil, you need more equipment and dogs. It is practically a full time job keeping up with all the boats, decoys, and dogs; there is hardly time to make a living.

If you feel that you are at the max equipment and retriever wise, start looking for the holy grail of shotguns. I always dreamed of owning a Bo-Whoop, Buckingham style gun, and after a 40 year quest and search, I am close to having it paid for and out of hock. Heck Pete McMiller has been tracking down a double that is only one of 11, and he has missed twice.

I for one need a longer off season, just so all the waterfowl related projects could be done prior to the opening!

I just need more time in the marsh... I am so far from a Beretta SO 10 is soooo far beyond my means, Other wise I would like a Browning Belgian A-5.

A DuckWater 23' is also a bit pricey...

Trip to Alaska to hunt Kings... well that isn't going to help me this year....

Hey Phil,

Come on over. You can get your fix on the salt marshes of Western Long Island. Our Canada goose season is still open till March 8th. Even the weather was nice. Sunny and 31 degrees. Can't beat that right now.

A Beretta SO 10 is way out of my league too. Rare doesn't mean overly expensive, just mildly so. Otherwise I would be saving up for my Westley Richards Droplock 8ga/10ga combo!

I had a friend who left for Colorado a number of years back. He had around $10 to his name. He had been invited to try out for the olympic skeet team, so he headed for Colorado with two 3200s and a lab puppy, and as he had no vehicle, he hitchhiked. By the time he got there, he had worn out his shoes and was going to try out barefooted, but the olympic basketball players had all been given new shoes by the tennis shoe company with the olympic contract, so many players threw away their old shoes. He found a pair in the trash, trained his dog to swim in the facilities pool, and tried out.

A dream can become reality no matter of the odds.
