Wood for calls

What kind of wood is preferred for calls?

I may have access to some exotics in some small pieces suitable for calls. All hard woods.

Let me know I think I could get these for a highly reduced price (free). If the shipping is worth the savings I would be glad to get the wood to some of the call makers on this sight.

Speaking for me, 1.5" square by 8" would be just right for a call. A 3" piece would make a barrel. Shawn

Hard, stable wood is better, in my limited experience. I've made calls out of maple, myrtlewood, and lacewood so far. Make sure it's not something you're alergic to. You'd have a tough time explaining to the guys at the factory on Monday why your lips are blistered after a weekend of duck hunting

I use all 2x2 stock min lengths 4" bbl and 5" insert keep me posted on what you find.
