Wow, the snow is going fast

Checked out the garden this afternoon to see how the snow melt was going. It surprised me to see so much of the snow gone. I dug down in a few spots and found no frost, in fact a couple worms were just under the surface. Even under the snow I could push a stake in. It's VERY wet.
This is a couple row of onions, lettuce, greens and that sort of things I planted last fall.

A flock of honks flew over while there.

Then checked out the flooding and a lake nearby.
Could probably still get out there to fish if it wasn't just little perch in there... and if I was as dumb as I use to be.

Doesn't look like the beech will be full yet this weekend.

More honks flying over.

I don't think there will be many canoes on the river right now. The landing is about 10 feet below the sign.

Our local eagle nest. I just missed one of them sitting above the nest.

A tree just over from the nest I thought looked neat. This place floods all the time.

There is less flooding then I thought there would be for how fast the snow has been melting. 10 days of drizzle and temps in the mid 30s has taken care of a lot of it. I only saw two ducks today so had to use the geese to keep it waterfowl related. Lots of Canadas and Whitefronts flying over, I saw a few flocks of Snows two days ago but I think they are staying farther to the west.

Tim,
What part of the Dakotas is that? I here they are expecting the Red River to flood pretty hard.
Good Luck,
WG

Thanks for sharing Tim, always great seeing your part of the country. Our grass is growing a bit and we heard spring peepers yesterday, so it is on.

It almost looks like a very very distant string of birds in the sky above the eagles nest.

wgammill,
SE SD along the Big Sioux River. Looks like more water is coming but we don't have the floods like the Red does. About 20 miles to the west there is a small river that just set records for flood level. My great aunts house is 1/4 mile away from it and is pretty wet right now. That's the area I hear the snows are going through.

Tod,
I had to look up spring peepers, we don't have them around here. Our frogs will start as soon as we have a couple warm sunny days in a row. I think they are chorus frogs?

Sam,
Good eyes. It was a line of whitefronts that passed over a couple minutes later.

At least someone has a bit of water, here the snow pack is about 55-70 percent normal depending on the location in northern Utah or Idaho. Southern Utah has 135 percent snow pack so they are good, but the north end of the state is a tad dry, maybe turn into drought conditions if no spring rains..

Froggies? darn we are still getting a temps cold enough for frost some mornings and you have to scrap the windshield...

Matt

appear.........ours are up and in flower here on the Westside.....the ones on the Eastiside that I saw last week have just started to break ground......

Your bare tree looks like the baby brother to the Mossy Oak logo....HEEEEYYyyyyy were you sending a subliminal message to "buy new Turkey camo"?.....

Steve

Matt,
I'm hoping that Montana and northern Wyoming have some good snow depth. I hate all the crying that we hear when the Missouri River fishermen can't get their boats in. Last year pretty well filled up all the resevoirs but it only takes one dry winter to set it back for a while.

Steve,
I'm not sure when the flowers will pop this spring. There was still a lot of snow on the slopes where they live. I think it was mid April last year.

Maybe I should start my own line of camo called Mossy Cottonwood. It would be made up of mismatched camo from ten to twenty years ago. They would always be on clearance too.

Tim,

Just a heads up on the Wyoming and Montana snow pack....does not look super good...

h\Hey Tim,

Our eagles are fledging now, missed a nest yesterday that we were trying to band, they'd already fledged, and the tree really wasn't climbable. Also, looks likea misID, it looks to be some cacklers in the honker flight!!

Clint

Clint,
