Yesterdays hunt with no ice

Back tags were issued long ago by NYS Dec. They really don't serve a purpose any longer. Years ago a CO could see your tag with binoculars from a distance.

John, what's a back tag for?

Also, what would Mocha do if she caught up to one of the seals? I often wonder the same thing when my dogs chase the great blue herons out of our yard. What would they do with a 5 foot tall bird? Not something I want to see, but does make me wonder none the less

Neat pictures.

Dani,

A back tag is a pouch you pin on your back to hold your license, signed duck stamp and HIP#. Most LEO's don't care if your not wearing it but you must have it with you while hunting. They know they are easy to loose when putting life jackets on and off.

I'm not sure what Mocha would do if she caught up with a
Seal and I don't plan to find out.

It just amazes me of the differences in duck hunting from where yall hunt and how and where we hunt. Temp here in SE TEXAS is in the high 60's never had to hunt in ice
(Raised on a salt marsh and started hunting alone when I was 10; I'm 47 now) ...and seals! I've got to get up there and hunt someday! Do seals steal your birds? I've had otters take some birds before along with alligators getting a few occasionally.

I have never heard of a Seal stealing a bird but they have kept me from shooting a few.

I know the Sandhill cranes will kill a dog, hear of it happening yearly. Even heard one that killed a hunter when he went after a cripple. They sport a 6" shank on their face; I suppose it would be possible.

On a hunt a few years ago a seal kept popping up periodically in the waters near to where I was hunting most of the day.

Since it was a slow day, I found it helped keep the afternoon interesting.

Later, another hunter offered his opinion that this seal was hanging around in hopes that it might be able to steal a downed duck from me.

If so, I guess we both had a slow afternoon, because I never shot a bird that day.

Good girl, Mocha. John, I really enjoyed this. Thanks for all those very nice pictures. Glad Jack got to see all of what was happening on that gorgeous day. That is a sweet looking rig that Scott has.
