Hey guys...
I am alive and well. In February I purchased a foreclosed home on my block and built an addition. The rest of the house was...
Pat has really found something special with his feather stamping. The combination of his impresiionistic paint jobs and this method of espressing a feather shape is a great combination. Straight forward, utilitarian, historical, efficient. All decoy for sure...
Thanks for entertaining us Pat!
Jack and I had a great morning yesterday. A good hunt in perfect weather with our trusty dog and some new decoys.

These Bluebill decoys were carved for a friend of my in exchange for a week at his lake home in northern Wisconsin. They now reside on his mantel over looking the lake. They are carved in an old school traditional style which reminds me more of a Minnesota decoy. Very indicative though of the...
Tim Speight and Pat Gregory ran the "Carvers Corner" at the St. Charles, IL show again this year at the Pheasant Run Resort. A collective of carvers worked on a hen BW Teal starting Friday afternoon. We used one of my patterns. Reggie Birch carved the body with hand tools, I knife carved the...
Wisconsin has a huge population of Wood Ducks. They have been a great success story over the years and provide for a big portion of our opening day enjoyment. Some years openers are slower than others, but if you stick it out all day, chances are you will be rewarded with a few Wood Ducks just...
Drill a clean hole. I use a brad bit and start with the drill in reverse to cut the perimeter
Use two part epoxy to set the eye
It hardens quick and the placement of the eye isn't confused by trying to fill at the same time
Fill with latex sandable...
Well, it's officially been more than twenty years since I headed down into the dank basement of my mother's hundred year old home determined to "build" my first rig of hand-carved decoys. I was armed with nothing more than a worn copy of Zack Taylor's "Successful Waterfowling" and a very brand...

These are a special creation for a repeat collector of mine. They are hollow cedar with a thin bottom board and oil paint. Next I'll rig them for hunting when fully cured. I sure wouldn't want to eat what they'll lure to the blind....
Finally finished up the "beanish" teal pair. According to Chuck these are sub-par (probably becuase there is no fancy stiching involved). We'll see what other folks have to say...
I was a fun project. They float so nice, I hope the collector hunts them.
One of my North Dakota hunting buddies asked me to make him a decoy we could hunt with each year. Three of us have been going out there for about eight years, and are now bringing our sons. Lots of species to hunt out there, but there is nothing like getting on a thousand Mallards working a...
This was an interesting pairing to make. I enjoyed having the paint scheme for each species play off the other while keeping the field markings representitive. I wanted them to tie together well. They are hollow cedar with jelutong heads and Old Holland oils. I've never seen a Barrows from the...
Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. I think you improve as you attack things from a different angle. This Mallard was ordered with a more contemporary shape. Not my usual for sure.
The customer also wanted it to be the final resting place for his lab...
These are hollow cedar and oils. Rigged with a traditional pad weight and a leather loop. The eyes are raw brass, which will mellow over time with the paint. They may be hunting in Paducah at this moment.
I hope you enjoy them...
